A significant fraction of the people commenting on HN believe themselves to be the next Jeff Bezos. They cheer for the boot that crushes them, as surely one day they themselves will own that boot.
The silverblue docs explain it best:
When a package is installed with rpm-ostree, a new OS image is composed by adding the RPM payload to the existing OS image, and creating a new, combined image.
What if I want to install a package that isn’t already installed and isn’t available as a Flatpak/Snap?
What about Proton is proprietary? The source is available on Github and may be used under the terms of the 3-clause BSD license.
The other logos are weird as well. Might be some upscaling at work here.
I recognize this style. Shame they stopped posting their weekly hackernews sneer.
It is not really FUD to point out that Mozilla wastes ungodly amounts of money on projects of dubious utility instead of investing it into their browser. Their current trajectory doesn't inspire much confidence either. Mozilla started to waste even more money on 'AI' features nobody asked for.
'Dead rop' is a really dumb name.
Kagi was founded as an AI company so this is not surprising. I unsubscribed from them after learning that. Also, their CEO is a weirdo who harasses people critical of their product and he thinks the GDPR is optional.
The KDE community has charted its course for the coming years, focusing on three interconnected paths that converge on a single point: community. These paths aim to improve user experience, support developers, and foster community growth.
For that reason I just ditched the youtube app and use the mobile site instead. On Firefox mobile uBlock works as well.
I haven't seen a youtube ad in years thanks to uBlock Origin and Firefox.
I highly recommend this video that explains gacha games and how they objectify women and sometimes men.
You know, that would be a worthwhile discussion to have; but that hinges on the mods not banning and removing the comments of anyone with a critical perspective. As of now, this is not possible on lemmy.ml.
No they are tankies. I got banned from the comics sub for criticizing a comic that gave a, to put it nicely, very one sided perspective on communism.
Not every threat model requires the security level GrapheneOS provides. My threat model ends with Google and other big corporation shouldn't spy on me and if I lose my phone anyone finding it shouldn't get in and be able to steal my identity. I think DivestOS and CalyxOS do a fine job with that.
Sure here are a few not so fun facts:
- At least 140 people where shot at the berlin wall by GDR troops for the crime of trying to flee the country.
- The GDR was executing prisoners by guillotine and firing squad, at least 52 where killed for political reasons.
- When people protested against the SED in June 1953 the protest was brutally beaten down using soviet tanks. At least 50 people lost their lifes and over 1500 people received long prison sentences. The whole protest was later declared to be an attempted 'fascist coup'.
I just returned from the Berlin Wall memorial and the GDR museum and all I can say to that is 'fuck that noise'. Communism always led to an authoritarian murderous regime with no regard for the needs of their people. Yes capitalism fucking sucks but living under communism sucks even harder.
KDE is great and this reminded me that I wanted to donate anyway.

If this thread is to be believed their statement about TeamViewers products being unaffected is likely not true.
