Today in Labor History December 25, 1927: B. R. Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of the Manusmriti to protest its treatment of Dalit people (formerly known as untouchables). Bhimrao Ramji Ambe

    B. R. Ambedkar was a truly great person, having the courage and conviction to go against centuries of malpractices. His writings, not just on the religious reforms but in other fields also reflect his knowledge and pragmatism.
My heartiest salute to this great human being.

In Hinduism multiple schools of thoughts contradict and coexist at the same time. Manusmriti was 'one' of the texts which actually was not that known among the masses. But yes it was probably the one which was used as an instrument to suppress people by the elites.
