  • If this were an optional "skin" of sorts, it would have been completely fine with me. But this is a forced redesign, and a really bad one at that. There will likely be changes before the GM release comes out, but overall I just don't like the design direction, nor the performance implications

  • It's not just effectively dead. A lot of people, who were core contributors to the project, declared it impossible to maintain, in modern scenarios. Does it still work? Most of the time. But it comes at a massive cost of having to deal with 40 years of tech debt, and band-aid decisions.

But even if you forget about that, this readme is a sign of major mental illness

  • Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that they should just say okay, installing instagram from a Limewire download is the intended path now.

Using AUR or Nixpkgs to install your stuff is perfectly acceptable to me, for these exact reasons. You have a choice, you’re choosing your preference, and at the end of the day you get a vetted source from a trusted repository.

Choice is what matters to people, and it’s being taken away from them. But even beyond that, if i wanted to install an “unsupported/untrusted” app on my device, that should fully be my choice

  • I still hate the term "sideloading", when used in this context. You don't "sideload" anything on your computer. You just install things, from wherever you damn desire.

They only started using the term here, to gaslight people into thinking that installing mobile apps from sources, other than the ones that give Apple money, is somehow insecure

  • I'm sure the game will be fun enough, for people who want this experience regularly, but the price is just outlandish. There's barely any innovation, version over version, and yet they are asking near double the money that Larian ask for Baldur's Gate 3 today

  • I use Nix on my M1 Pro machine, and it’s by far my favorite laptop yet. The company and their business practices absolutely do suck though.

That said, there is certainly a middle ground for software there. I hate windows as much as the next guy, but macOS is at least Unix-adjacent, so it’s not a complete pain

  • Mass layoffs suck. Yet again it’s corporate mismanagement, at best.

But in all seriousness, what was even their role there? It’s a glorified social media platform with an occasional job application. They cant possibly need that many people

  • I understand that the overwhelming majority of people will still continue streaming at 16:9, or the vertical equivalent. It's not just about ownership of ultrawide displays. It's about support for such output format, for people who do want it. But even going by your own example, a ton of phones are 19.5:9, with some models straight up being 21:9

  • And we’ll just watch them either get slapped by an insignificant fine, or watch them weasel their way out of this again, by claiming they made you agree to some perpetual abandonment of rights, like they always do

  • Grinding LC questions just makes me feel worse, because i know that being good at those won't guarantee me job security. If i'm going to have to blast through rounds of torture, just to be laid off 3 month later, what's even the point.

This is one of the few industries, where the demands keep rising exponentially, with no regard for peoples wellbeing
