  • I don't understand why people are suddenly praising Gamefreak for this "miraculous" update, that fixed everything, when in reality it took a 10 year jump in hardware, and a slightly increased Pokemon density. Do these people think Xenoblade Chronicles ran on magic and unicorn dust, or some secret performance mode that only gets unlocked for that game?

  • If you're not using flakes: nixos-rebuild switch -I nixos-config=path/to/configuration.nix

    If you are:
nixos-rebuild switch --flake path/to/flake.nix#hostname or a shorter nixos-rebuild switch --flake .#hostname where . is the current path, assuming you're already navigated to where flake.nix is

  • It would be yet another spit in the face, if they released a 80$ base game, with the typical 2 season passes, totaling almost 300$ in dlcs of questionable quality. But I wouldn't hold my breath for anything, because it's 2K and Gearbox we're talking about

  • A lot of really bizarre choices there.

With MauiKit essentially depending on KDE frameworks, abandoning Plasma 6 is a nail in the coffin.

I was never a huge fan of the NX design philosophy, because it felt quite disjointed, and not very well suited for neither mobile screens, nor larger ones, with how tiny yet spaced between everything is, but at the same time, variety is a good thing for people who did like it.

That being said, without first-party MauiKit support, Nitrux has no real benefits to offer, so it’s unclear what their plan is going forward

  • Probably not. Steam for macOS still has no SteamPlay support, so your best bet is installing the regular Steam through a separate Heroic prefix. Works great, but it does still require Rosetta.

That said, Box64 and FEX are both making a lot of progress, so it’d be awesome to see these in action officially soon

  • If this were an optional "skin" of sorts, it would have been completely fine with me. But this is a forced redesign, and a really bad one at that. There will likely be changes before the GM release comes out, but overall I just don't like the design direction, nor the performance implications

  • It's not just effectively dead. A lot of people, who were core contributors to the project, declared it impossible to maintain, in modern scenarios. Does it still work? Most of the time. But it comes at a massive cost of having to deal with 40 years of tech debt, and band-aid decisions.

But even if you forget about that, this readme is a sign of major mental illness

  • Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that they should just say okay, installing instagram from a Limewire download is the intended path now.

Using AUR or Nixpkgs to install your stuff is perfectly acceptable to me, for these exact reasons. You have a choice, you’re choosing your preference, and at the end of the day you get a vetted source from a trusted repository.

Choice is what matters to people, and it’s being taken away from them. But even beyond that, if i wanted to install an “unsupported/untrusted” app on my device, that should fully be my choice

  • I still hate the term "sideloading", when used in this context. You don't "sideload" anything on your computer. You just install things, from wherever you damn desire.

They only started using the term here, to gaslight people into thinking that installing mobile apps from sources, other than the ones that give Apple money, is somehow insecure

  • I'm sure the game will be fun enough, for people who want this experience regularly, but the price is just outlandish. There's barely any innovation, version over version, and yet they are asking near double the money that Larian ask for Baldur's Gate 3 today
