  • That’s true but there are a bunch of CDNs you can choose from and you can switch from one to another fairly easily. Cloudflare just happens to be the most popular at the moment but they’re not the only big player, not to mention smaller players.

FWIW I totally agree with the sentiment that Cloudflare (and AWS for that matter) is creating a too-centralized web. I just don’t see an issue with using CDNs for fediverse servers in general.

  • Wait is that just an air cooling with a bunch of case fans? How is that cooling a 1000w chip?? Why wouldn’t they go with dual radiators and a custom loop? It’s a $50k system they certainly have the budget for it…

  • Yeah it’s unfortunate you had to learn that lesson the hard way, but cops are not there to help you in any way regardless of the ridiculous “protect and serve” slogan they love to use. They’ve literally fought and won multiple cases to prove they don’t have to help people. It’s fucked.

  • Yeah and not it’s not just with the Steam Deck either, it’s basically every hobby subreddit. 3D printing is a ton of “I just got my Ender 3 can’t wait to do my first print!”, Xbox is “Just got my Series X can’t wait to play!”, self hosting is “I just bought this Optiplex off eBay what should I host on it?!”, etc, etc, etc.

I stopped following a bunch of subreddits way before the API changes due to basically half my feed being crap like that.

  • Why not just use an ad blocker directly in your phone’s web browser? Works on any connection, works better than DNS based blockers because it will properly remove the page elements, and no need to connect to a VPN. PiHole is nice for devices you can’t install an ad blocker on like a smart tv or something but on anything with a controlable browser it’s objectively inferior to a native ad blocker…

  • Yeah they’ve gone way downhill the past few years. I was a paid subscriber for over a decade and finally canceled last year as the quality just wasn’t there anymore, even the one great comment sections kinda suck now too.
