What reading style do you consider more tedious to read, A) short, concise, and precise, but using non-layperson vocabulary, B) using layperson vocabulary, but it's longer, drawn out, and not precise?
  • I think that the answer to this depends on the audience and the topic or nature of the discussion.

I prefer precise, technical language if the audience has experience in the topic. You can save a lot of time by not explaining things that the readers should, reasonably know.

I think simpler language is appropriate for a more general audience or higher level discussion.

It can be challenging to find the right balance on a forum, like this, where you don't necessarily know who the audience is.

Everything is explained away in Evolution by Natural Selection. Natural Selection makes sense if there is a Supreme Creator but in the absence of one why does it exist?
  • I'm not sure that there needs to be a any grand cosmic reason for life to exist. Life could just be an accident of random events in our little corner of the universe.

Natural selection offers an explanation for how life changes across generations in response to challenges in the environment. It does not require a plan, just that the outcome of a chaotic process (reproduction) creates mutations that produce a slight edge, or at least no reduction in reproductive efficiency.

  • What is the point of dbus?
  • Dbus attempts to provide a standardized system for inter process communication (IPC) without the complexity of managing individual connections between each and every process that needs to share certain types of data.

  • Not sure exactly what you want, but like this may be what you want. https://github.com/PeterDaveHello/ipinfo.tw

There are simpler solutions that are just a php script on your web server if you're only interested in IP address (I couldn't find a good example quickly on mobile)

  • Judge orders Trump ally Scott Perry to turn over "incendiary" evidence to Jack Smith
  • I assume that they need them to be handed over through a legal process in order to be admissible in court.

It is generally not allowed to use illegally obtained evidence in court.

Yes, I know that it does happen, and people who can not afford effective legal representation get convinced

  • Steve Jobs Rigged The First iPhone Demo By Faking Full Signal Strength And Secretly Swapping Devices Because Of Fragile Prototypes And Bug-Riddled Software
  • I think that's kind of rhe point of these sorts to demos to begin with.

The company says we're developing a product that, we are not ready to ship today, but will be this awesome. Give us some money and you can see how awesome it will be.

I generally assume that anything a company says about a product/service that is not shipping today is the best possible spin on the best version of what they'd like to sell. What you buy probably won't be what is shown as an early demo

  • GF doesn't want to take compromises
  • Based on what you wrote, sounds to me like she wants out.

I think that a healthy long term relationship will require some compromise from both partners. Over the course of a lifetime there will be things that two people don't agree on, sometimes very strongly. Being able to talk through those issues and work out an appropriate compromise is crucial to the longevity of the relationship.

If she's insistant that the shorts of issues you've described are deal breakers for her I think there are a few possible reasons:

    • She wants out of the relationship and is using these issues as an excuse
    • she's not really ready for a longterm, serious relationship
    • The issues are more serious than you've described and she's not explaining her complaints in a way that makes clear to you what is really wrong
  • I'm about to buy my first grinder, can anyone help me streamline my morning?
  • That's how I came up with the starting ratio.

I usually only let mine sit for about 5 minutes. Probably, I'm too lazy and impatient for his full method. I haven't watched that video for a while, but I seem to remember that he leaves it sitting for quite a while
