what are these rubber holes on the back of the pc case?
  • Anything that doesn't have an external connector or some way to mount one. One example would be if you were using a USB Wi-Fi radio and wanted to connect it to the internal USB connectors but you'd need to pass the antenna to the outside of the case.

  • when you upgrade an OS, do you clean install or upgrade?
  • "clean install" is Windows-user logic. Doesn't apply to Linux.

Apply personal patches when running pacman -Syu?

There's a few packages that I use that I have created personal patches for. When one of these packages gets updated I need to manually change the PKGBUILD to the new version, SHA, etc. Is there any way to have a local patch applied to a package every time a new version of the package is release?

What do you use to track BMCs/KVMs/IPMI?

I manage hundreds of servers at work. They each have a BMC (remote power on/off, reset, KVM, etc) and we need to use those features frequently. I've been using a Google Docs spreadsheet to track their URLs, what each box is used for, specs, etc but it feels like a dynamic web app would be better for this purpose. Does anyone use anything like this? Did you make your own?

What's your current favorite distro that isn't Arch, Debian or Fedora?

I'm wondering what the current favorite distros are besides the most popular ones like Arch, Debian and Fedora.

What's your favorite music player on Linux?

Mine is Strawberry since it has a ton of options and plays a ton of formats. It's also (distant) fork of Amarok 1.4 and integrates well with KDE Plasma. I'm curious what other people are using these days. What's your favorite player?
