So... who else here keeps having to get over moments of major anxiety and dread about the U.S. election next week?
  • Having been through a few rigged elections myself, I think it will be business as usual. Social media has a tendency of exaggerating things out of proportion. This creates anxiety and helps people unsee the bullshit. I highly doubt that it’s the president who reigns this huge country, I’m convinced it’s all for show, so that we don’t get our pitchforks.

  • Google creating an AI agent to use your PC on your behalf, says report | Same PR nightmare as Windows Recall
  • I heavily use both platforms, whatever I talk about or wherever I go, I see targeted ads. When I speak about brand X, I immediately see ads for it both in ios and android. Plus every device mic is being listened to all the time, advertising agencies are your proof. Sure android devices collect more data in practice, however the data that’s not being collected by ios can be inferred from the data that’s already been collected. Do you really believe a company when they say their devices are made to ensure your privacy? Google literally says the same thing on their privacy policies ;) it’s all legal mumbo jumbo that doesn’t mean what it’s supposed to.

  • This is why I still use an Android custom ROM in 2024
  • It’s firmware, hence why the word ROM stuck. Once you flash the firmware to specific partitions, after the boot you can no longer modify it, unless you have root too. Technically nothing is ROM, there is always a way :).

  • Disposable vapes to be banned in England and Wales from June
  • I love the convenience, but nobody gives a fuck about recycling or nature in the US. I called a few smoke shops on how I could recycle these disposable vapes with rechargeable batteries and they literally said to throw it in the trash.

  • I download it every now and then. But usually I end up deleting it because of the sheer amount of propaganda and advertising. Like give me people’s ideas, not some idiot who’s famous because he did X and Y.

  • Pixel 9 models below $600

If you go to websites like Swappa right now, you can find brand new Google Pixel 9 models for less than $600. Considering Google is trying to sell these phones above $800, I think the market already decided what this series of phones should cost really.

    Best stock ticker widget app?

    Hi there,

I’m looking for an app with a good widget that would let me track the stocks I’ve invested in. The main issue I’m having with the system app is that the widget is limited to 6 symbols and if you are using an app to track multiple stock prices on a widget, I would love to know what you use. So far tried a few apps but had no luck. Thanks in advance.

    Reddit ads between comments

Was recently browsing Reddit and noticed a new type of ad which pops up in between comments now. It used to be a few ads in between posts and you would get an ad as the top comment when you click on a post, but now they’re injecting ads in between comments when you are even scrolling comments lol. When do you think this will start having an effect on regular people? Do you think the enshittification will slow down or come to a halt if these companies start losing revenue due to lost customer base?

    Any unofficial YouTube clients?

Hey folks, there are a few apps in the Android world which I use to watch YouTube without ads. Some examples are ReVanced, NewPipe etc. I was wondering if there is a similar app that I can use to fulfill the same needs such as ad blocking, downloading and viewing on iOS. Figured if anyone knew it'd be on Lemmy. Thanks in advance!

    Backup filters/blocks?

    Hey everyone,

Been using Boost for a long while now and I'm wondering if the filters/blocks I've made over the past few months persist when I install the app on a new device. I really don't want to see some communities/instances on my feed and does anyone know if this syncs with my user account? Is there a way to backup these filters I've enabled? Appreciate any response.
