In the mid 80s one of the most iconic school supplies hit the shelves -- the Trapper Keeper.

In the early 80s I could go to the school office and grab a pee chee folder for 50 cents and a Ticonderoga #2 pencil for a quarter.

Also from the mid 70s, I remember shopping for school supplies and the carboard pencil box was a mainstay.

I had this lunch pail as a kid. It's the only lunch pail I remember, so you know it's my favorite.

  • Deleted orginal comment because I was feeling snarky when I wrote it. Nevermind.

  • No. That's a professional. I tried google image search to try and source the photographer, but couldn't find them.

I tried to take a photo when I was there, but missed it.

Vacation tip from me to everyone: take your good camera. This was in Jan 2005 and cell phone cameras were nothing like they are now. I decided to leave my bulky camera at home so it wouldn't get lost/destroyed and bought disposable cameras. Now I have a bunch of crap photos from the most amazing trip. :( I've been back since. Australia is one of my favorite places. Which part? The Australia part.

  • Made with love, just for you.

  • Opossum on left is best man. Opossum on right is bridesmaid. Also, not my pic, just a good one I found and wanted to share.

  • Maybe you can start a community. That's what a kooikjerhond owner did. I started the dog-a-day to bring more awareness to that specific community. Edit: Kooikerhondje - I never get it right on the first try.

  • Our hero :)

  • Start posting. Really. I've been posting to keep communities I like going and others have started posting too. It's slow growth, but the more content a community has, the more people will sub to it and eventually post to. Anyway, that's my opinion.

  • Agreed. There is a snobbery to Apple.

They (my inlaws) are all on apple and they get these $2k+ Macs and they do less on them than I do on my non-apple laptop that I got refurbished for a few hundred, but I get a definite sense from them that non-apple products are beneath them.

One of the older family members sends emails and occasionally looks something up online. She often has to hunt down her Mac because she hasn't used it in a couple of weeks. When she needed to replace it, I suggested something like mine and she got quiet and changed the subject. The next week she was telling me about her new Mac. It cost a fortune, but she didn't tell me that, to her credit.

They all have iPhones too as if anything less would mean they were in a slightly lower class. I love them or I'd tell them to pound sand.

The person who downvoted you hasn't experienced this snobbery. It exists though.

  • I had an older relative who thought that because my bubble was in green that she was being charged to see it.

  • That is...better. Hmm. We may have a winner, but I'm wondering how I might find a community that was never on Reddit.

Anyway, thank you so much. It's not perfect, but it is substantially better.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, really. I'm happy for anyone trying to help.

Yes, I can look up a specific community if I know what it is and I can browse for communities also, but the current browsing method wrecks my brain because I'm neurodivergent.

I guess a good analogy would be suggesting to a low-vision person that they should face the screen. I can see it already, but it's blurry and I'm asking for help to zoom in.

As long as you're here, do you have a suggestion for a community? I'm definitely looking for interesting, niche spaces.

  • Like two different car horns.

One for, "Hey, I'm over here. Don't hit me." And one for, "HEY, I'M OVER HERE! DON'T HIT ME!"

  • What do you suggest for browsing? I think there are 20k+ communities. I know there's something brilliant out there that I wouldn't think to look for by itself.

If you don't have a browsing suggestion, I'll take a community suggestion. Maybe something niche?
