Single dose of LSD provides immediate, lasting anxiety relief, study says
  • You are correct about legalization. However, having it as a schedule 1 drug severely limits the testing that can be done with it. Schedule 1 drugs are seen as drugs with no medical value therefore there is no need to work with them for medical purposes. It is the same reason marijuana isn’t legal. You can’t really test with it but people would point to it not having any long term studies as the reason it is not legal. It is a circular argument used by conservatives and liberals that are endorsed by pharmaceutical companies. The scheduling of drugs was politicized by Reagan to surppress the liberal movements that grew in the 60s and 70s.

  • Wendy’s Wants to Start Uber-like Surge Pricing in 2025
  • Not sure how they think this won’t upset customers. I assume most customers won’t know there is a surge until they get to see the menu board. By the time they see it they will have already gotten in line. So they either get out of line or decide to pay. Either way I am sure they are going to leave upset. The only customers that won’t be upset are the ones that want to pay more for the same food or didn’t notice. The latter will be upset if they ever realize what happened.

  • 33 Powerful Books That Might Change Your Life
  • That isn’t how taxes work. You don’t vote to raise taxes on the rich and accidentally raise taxes on the middle class. You can’t say not to raise taxes because rich might find loopholes. No one says we shouldn’t sentence people to prison because the most connected people might escape.

  • I'm happy to move if they'd pay for my meal
  • I don’t think there is a proper way to ask. Leave people that are eating alone so they can enjoy their meal. Even if you ask nicely, you are still putting pressure on the person eating. If you need to be seated a specific time go to a restaurant with reservations.

  • Starbucks sued for allegedly using coffee from farms with rights abuses while touting its ‘ethical’ sourcing
  • Consumers are all about consistency. You can have a worse product as long as it is consistent every time. Ordering process being consistent is also important. That is partially why Starbucks pushes their terminology. The terminology also creates a feeling of being in a group and makes it more difficult to order at other places. Then add in gamified reward programs and a good phone app. Starbucks makes it difficult for local places to compete even with a better overall product.

  • Back to the Future: The Return of the Ultraliberal Right in Argentina
  • What is an ultraliberal right? Seems like they are trying to pin a liberal title to an ultra right populist president. “ Milei is a newcomer to politics, just winning a seat in the Congress two years ago with his ultra-conservative libertarian party Freedom Advances. ”. They might be confusing liberal with libertarian.

  • But War Crime
  • I would be more willing to believe this logic if they had more proof that one, Hamas was doing this in all instances that the IDF killed civilians and two that killing Hamas through human shields was working as a way to prevent this in the future. As of now it doesn’t seem to be stopping them according to IDF so I don’t think it is valid to use that logic.

It would also help if Israel’s leadership would stop comparing Palestinians to animals and stop stealing their land. It sure feels like an excuse to justify exterminating all Palestinians

  • Housing market affordability is so bad that Zillow says it will take you 13.5 years to break even on a purchase from July onward
  • It isn’t the amount of time it takes to pay off the house. It is the time it takes not to loose money on selling a house. The number was about 5 years when I purchased my home. You take the selling price of your home subtract the mortgage, taxes, and realtor fees. It now takes 13 years before you can sell your house and break even. This just makes investing in homes worse. It also makes buying a home more risky and inflexible.

  • Google Fiber's 20Gbps Internet to Arrive by Year's End for Select Residential Users
  • Probably but you can use a different dns provider. If you are really concerned, a vpn is the best answer to make sure they don’t get any of your information. The problem is that there aren’t very many VPNs that can do anything close to 10Gbs.

  • Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admits giving up on Windows Phone and mobile was a mistake
  • They are going to have the same problem they had with their original phones. No apps. They could never get enough developers to care about the OS without a user base. You also can’t get a user base without apps. That’s what killed the windows phone.
Amazon tried to use the kindle formula on a cell phone. The problem is that the main reason the kindle was successful was there was no real competition. They also only need to provide books not apps for the kindle. The cellphone market was a lot more mature with a ton of options. They came in with a mediocre phone that had less apps and less configurability. They tried to do the Apple walled garden on an Android phone. Clearly they didn’t understand their market.

  • Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admits giving up on Windows Phone and mobile was a mistake
  • There are a ton of phones in China running Android without google services . If you try to cut off Microsoft you would also be hurting all those Chinese phones. Google also can’t do that without being sued by Microsoft for not allowing competition.

  • Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admits giving up on Windows Phone and mobile was a mistake
  • That is correct. The money is made on the searches. With their own phones, they can push their own search engine and Ads. Google did it so they could force other makers to standardize. Microsoft can do the same thing. You make money the store. Android just makes it easy to port apps to Microsoft’s app store Developers won’t be required to code a new app just for Microsoft.

  • Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admits giving up on Windows Phone and mobile was a mistake
  • I think they can still reboot with an Android base. They can just do what they did for edge. Pull a Google. Sell hardware with very polished software. Android would give them full access to all Android apps. Also they already have outlook and office apps made for android.
