  • Upvotes show that redditors think content is positively contributing to a community or the site as a whole. Downvotes mean redditors think that content should never see the light of day.

  • Some people use it as relevant/non relevant

    Definitely a minority

  • Funny and or wholesome

  • Doesn't have to be useful, this community is for discussion, not representative panels studies

  • Aaah! Probably this indeed

  • It might be difficult to find a study about that. Hopefully someone can provide one.

(I am personally convinced it's true, but indeed anecdotal evidence is no proof)

  • Hello,

Sorry to hear this is your experience.

As other people mentioned, please use the block button as often as you need. I block all news, politics and tech communities. The rest of Lemmy is okay, some communities are very nice.

Here's a list of active communities that are explicitly not news, politics or tech so that can maybe help you: https://lemm.ee/post/57443076?scrollToComments=true

    A few generalist recommendations

There are also ways to block some keywords, have a look at the pinned post on !newtolemmy@lemmy.ca

About the lack of action upon aggressity, may we ask you in which communities that happened? Mod teams are usually small and don't always cover all timezones, so if the community you were in had no mod in your timezone they might not have been able to act fast enough. Please also note that mods can't see posts removed by users themselves, so they could also not act after you removed that post.

About the downvotes, there is quite a few amount of people that are serial downvoters. They never contribute to any conversation, but just downvote a little of stuff. Kind of overtly negative lurkers if you want.

There are still a few reasonable replies in the thread, so I hope you'll stick around. If not thank you for at least giving it a try!

  • Any idea when you'll be able to fix it? I'm still having the issue:-/

  • Maybe Iceshrimp? Looks better than Mastodon, hopefully less resources demanding yoo
