If you ever worked shifts and transitioned to a 9 to 5 job, how difficult was the change?
  • I used to work overnight, 4 10s and it was like 10p-8a or 9p-7a. I switched to 8a-5p and it took weeks to turn around completely. I had been using mio energy in water for a couple of years at that point and I went from two 20oz bottles at night to four of them during the day. It was eye opening how completely draining working overnight was for me.

  • Tracking the temperature drop during the eclipse with Home Assistant!

I've got a weather station outside and I use this add on to bring it into HA. We only had 79.8% coverage during the eclipse, but there was a noticeable drop in temperature!

About to buy my first road bike, need some advice
  • I don't have any experience with those brands and I'm still pretty new to road cycling, so I can only give my general thoughts.

You're right that you don't need a carbon frame, but I recently switched from aluminum to carbon and the difference was eye opening. Just the amount of vibration that it dampens on pavement has made a massive, immediate, change in how biking feels to me.

One thing I would consider before making a purchase is the possibility of upgrades/changes that you might want to make in the future. I haven't looked at the bikes you linked but, as an example, if you were to buy a bike that couldn't accept a standard round seatpost and stem, then you wouldn't be able to buy replacements like the redshift shockstop system, which are fantastic.

But other than that I wish you good luck =-)

  • Cloud services for controlling things inside your house are the worst

MyQ fails with 403 forbidden error after recent cloud changes · Issue #99947 · home-assistant/core

I recently moved away from MyQ to local control of my garage door and I've been loving it. I stumbled across the linked issue where MyQ shit the bed for roughly 3 days and it just confirms to me that the extra effort to move away from a cloud service was worth it. I'm down to just one last cloud service for something inside my house. My mind is pretty much made up that if I can't accomplish it locally, I won't do/use it.

The ratgdo local-only replacement for myQ is fantastically easy to setup

I just setup ratgdo on my Chamberlain garage door opener and it was great. Flashing it via Chrome and configuration was easy, Home Assistant picked it up via MQTT immediately, and wiring it up was simple. All around a great experience and well worth the money. I'll keep myQ around for a few days, but if no issues crop up, I'll be kicking it to the curb soon.
