Democrats worry their most loyal voters won’t turn out for Biden in 2024
  • I’m sorry to bring up Reddit, but being interested in US politics (I’m not from the US) I’m impressed with the level of discussion here.

Almost every political reddit comment section I’ve encountered was a cesspool of such polarized left vs right opinions that anything more nuanced and centered was buried right away.

  • GREAT NEWS about Lemmy Server Performance, another major SQL mistake has been discovered today: every single comment & post create (INSERT) is updating ~1700 rows in the site_aggregates table
  • I am always fascinated with these types of comments, specifically for a free and open-source software. There are lemmy instances supporting hundreds of thousands of users and trafic, feedback from both server owners and lemmy devs is almost instantaneous.

A platform like lemmy requires client side knowledge to build both desktop and mobile UI (that are performant), it requires ActivityPub knowledge to integrate with the Fediverse, it requires backend knowledge to build APIs for 100% feature compatibility with 3rd party apps. It requires DB knowledge to optimize queries, it requires devops / platform knowledge to deploy it.

And all of this is built in public.

  • Ocasio-Cortez endorses Biden's reelection campaign, sending a strong signal of Democratic unity
  • I am not even remotely saying that, and I wasn't even refering to a specific Republican candidate (least of all Trump given the latest events). Personally, I preffered Biden's policies last election, however this is not at all relevant to the point I was making.

Failing to see Biden shortcomings over Trump (or any other candidate) and vice versa is just a reflection of how black and white your view of politics is. Keep in mind that half of your country voted for the oposite candidate of your liking, and labeling them all as fascists is hurting you the most.

I am looking at my country as well, it's not like it's an exclusive thing you can have an opinion on. Keep in mind that the current people on position in my country are actually appointed by the American democracy police, so what happens on your side of the pond has some impact on my end as well.

  • Ocasio-Cortez endorses Biden's reelection campaign, sending a strong signal of Democratic unity
  • The fact that the majority here is okay to settle with a mildly dissapointing 80 year old, just so the other "evil" side doesn't win is a bit disheartening for the state of US politics and democracy.

And this is comming from a politically shithole country I am born and living in.

  • How are Lemmy federated servers handling cross platform posting, commenting and upvoting?

What are some good resources to learn and get an overview of how federation between servers is actually handled?

I am aware that data is shared / duplicated between instances, but I want to know the actual technical scope of it – and how is the data flowing and being stored.
