Sledges - June is better than July - [Shoegaze]
  • Me too. It was a great little gem to find.

  • Bootblacks - Hidden Things - [Post-Punk, Darkwave]
  • I also recommend checking out the lists on Rate Your Music for discovery!

  • This Will Destroy You [Full Album] - Set to Line Rider - [Post-Rock] [It makes the journey even more emotional]
  • Try it out if you're ever bored! I used to play it a lot when I was younger, but like twice a decade when I remember it, It's fun for 30 mins.

  • Bootblacks - Hidden Things - [Post-Punk, Darkwave]
  • The method I use for genre tags is:

    • Rate Your Music - is by far my most favorite and preferred genre list
    • Everynoise - although discontinued, it still has everything I need for Spotify's genre categorization by typing in an artist
    • Last.fm - I don't really prefer this anymore, but if I don't have a choice, this isn't bad.
    • Finally, If I can't find it on any of these, I use my intuition and go looking through the Rate Your Music genres and try to find the most accurate.

Even with everynoise and last.fm, I still match whatever they spit out to rate your music equivalents to make it easier for anyone searching the community. That way everything is consistent and search will bring up every result.

  • öOoOoOoOoOo - Rules Of The Show - [Avant-Garde Metal, Alternative Metal]
  • Yeah, it really is a shame, but I'm happy that they gifted this to us anyways! You'd also really like this track as well if you haven't already heard of it! I actually like it better, but it is an order of magnitude out there compared to this track haha

  • Himiko Kikuchi - Look Your Back! - [Japanese Jazz Fusion, City Pop]
  • Haha, that's a good description of it!

  • Mr. Bungle - Retrovertigo - [Experimental Rock, Art Rock] - [It's popular, but It's been sticking with me this year.]
  • Yeah, This is my favorite song by them by far, but I appreciate everything they've made.

  • b e g o t t e n 自杀 - (life) - 生活 - [Dark Ambient, Vaporwave]
  • I don't believe there was ever any follow up. There is a little bit more info if you check out this video. It's where I originally found this artist, and it's a great channel for niche electronic and noise genres.

  • öOoOoOoOoOo - Rules Of The Show - [Avant-Garde Metal, Alternative Metal]
  • It's really cool to see you checking out these old posts. I posted them when the community had basically no one subscribed and it is unfortunate that some of my favorites were going to be lost to obscurity from coming in too early.

Let me know what you think of the other track!

  • This Will Destroy You [Full Album] - Set to Line Rider - [Post-Rock] [It makes the journey even more emotional]
  • You were really missing out on line rider haha. I never thought that the two would come together so well. I think the first song on that album is my favorite post-rock track ever.

  • Do you use ratings and favorites?
  • I kind of solved that with favorites. For albums I favorite them like I said previously to bookmark them to see all of the ones I care about most front and center.

The favorites for songs though, I use for the use case you described above. Every song I favorite gets added into a playlist using Navidrome’s “smart playlist” feature automatically.

Don’t get me wrong I use playlists ritually, but for an easy “brain off” playlist with every single song I clicked the heart on automatically, it can’t be beaten for ease of use.

  • Do you use ratings and favorites?
  • I definitely use favorites. I’ve never really cared enough for the rating system. I almost use the favorites button as a bookmark for albums and songs I don’t want to lose in the collection.

  • AFI - The Lost Souls #melodichardcore
  • That’s a tough question lol I do have two suggestions though. First one you might already know is Thought Riot - Shattered Mirror Syndrome and for something a little more modern The Ruined - Cry Wolf

Hopefully that gets you started. If you’re looking for the new big band it would be Turnstile, but they’re in a mixed bag from the more hardcore fans of hardcore. I personally like them a lot, but they aren’t like that AFI album.

  • AFI - The Lost Souls #melodichardcore
  • Hmm, it kind of depends if you want sound like afi, or if you just want some hardcore in general. It’s near impossible to find anything that sounds like AFI and melodic hardcore flirts with metalcore too much sometimes. I like metalcore too, but I also like the distinction.

    Do you use Spotify?
