UFC 300 Embedded: Vlog Series - Episode 6
  • We've given up on the live threads, I assume? If so: Sad but very understandable. Are guys just back on Reddit or is there another nice place to discuss MMA that you're found?

  • [Spoiler] Referee has a chat with main card loser
  • For the folks who didn't understand (like me), a guy on Reddit transcribed:

I'm not sure what was worse, the punch or you hitting your head on the..on the canvas. Man. [pats Matt Schnell's sweaty chest with his creepy ref glove] You'll see it on..on..on the film. Holy crap.. [looks at Schnell's coach]... Did you hear it?

  • [SPOILER] Alex Nicholson vs. Chase Sherman | Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 7
  • The follow-up shots feel illegal in bareknuckle

  • ONE 166 Fight ends in a red card from Herb Dean
  • Bhullar didn't engage and got two warnings (yellow cards) before that. (At least that's I assume; I switched away after the second yellow card and they were discussing potential disqualification if he didn't do more.)
Edit: You can find the clip in another post: https://kbin.social/m/mma/t/870220/SPOILER-Disqualification-For-Inactivity-Between-Amir-Aliakbari-vs-Arjan-Bhullar

  • Announcing shitpost Sunday - starting today!
  • Isn't it crazy how they put possibly the worst fight of the card as the headliner? Seems incredible that bad heavyweights will actually pull more viewers, considering that random people are probably not gonne tune into one of these fight nights anyway.

  • Announcing shitpost Sunday - starting today!
  • Does this count for a shit post?

Apart from the main event the fight night looks pretty nice though, to be honest.

  • [SPOILER] Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria
  • And against the power puncher Topuria again...

  • [SPOILER] Anthony Hernandez vs. Roman Kopylov
  • MMA is awesome. Seeing the panic in Roman's eyes is something else.

  • [SPOILER] Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria
  • Let's hope the reason for that was that he didn't wait long enough after the KO from Makhachev. Maybe if he takes some time off he can come back for real. (Inhaling copium.)

  • [SPOILER] Tom Nolan vs. Nikolas Motta
  • Actually missed it because it happened so early in the fight. Motta is exciting. There's just something about people with serious knockout power that draws your eyes to them.

  • 11 brutal Michael 'Venom' Page finishes.
  • Insane knockouts but the highlights seem somewhat diminished by the lack of crowd reaction.

  • Likely UFC payouts for 90 of the biggest MMA stars and champions revealed – Full list
  • Worth a read, if only for nice paragraphs like this:

Sonnen has been trying hard to defend UFC pay, and his recent efforts included making dubious claims and inflating the non-disclosed bonuses that he got from the promotion. He claimed to have earned $8,800,000 in the rematch against Anderson Silva, when in reality, lawsuit documents showed that Silva got just $2.5 million while Sonnen got $1.05 million — over eight times less than his claim.

  • Jon Jones on twitter
  • I don't even think he has much of a point anymore due to the inactivity. Not at heavy weight with one fight against someone with little wrestling skills and after he lost his last fight at LHW to Reyes (who is probably not among this "absolute toughest competition"), no matter what the score cards said. Other unproven champions get stripped all the time when they're injured.
Why should we believe that he is the exciting guy at HW and presumably past his prime. The last time he beat a legend was 6,5 years ago in another division (Cormier) – and it was overturned due to doping!
So yes, in a literal sense he is right of course, he fought legends and Aspinall didn't. But I'd rather watch Aspinall v Stipe for the title with Jones stripped than Jones v Stipe and I think it would be more deserving as well. So I don't think he has much of a point in any practical sense.

  • Bobby Green, Arman Tsarukyan's team in alleged physical altercation at UFC Austin hotel
  • On the one hand I don't give a fuck about either of the two, so I'm happy about some drama. On the other hand: Please don't cancel the Dariush fight, I'm hyped for that!

  • PFL officially announces Bellator acquisition, plans revealed for future
  • The highlight sentence to spare you the click:

While financial details of the transaction remain unknown, Davis revealed plans to do a champions vs. champions “mega-event” in 2024. Additionally, Davis told ESPN that a “reimagined” Bellator brand, named “Bellator International Champions Series,” will run concurrent to PFL in 2024 with eight “one-off” events in 2024.

  • How do you keep track of MMA schedules?
  • Kampfkalender is freaking awesome and converts every event to your time zone: https://kampfkalender.de/
Edit: Also shows the applicable streaming service, but only for Germany, I think.

  • Jiri Prochazka vs Dominick Reyes | FREE FIGHT | UFC 295
  • Still one of the sickest knockouts I've got to see live (on screen). The way Reyes folds on the canvas looked so scary.

  • Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones paydays likely revealed in UFC anti-trust case
  • Summary: Pay is weighted towards the top guys who earned decent money. McGregor e.g. earned about $25 million in the revealed time period of 2011 to 2016. The stars in their prime days earned about 3-5 million per fight.
What I found interesting besides that is that the McGregor effect seems to be real: Jose Aldo earned ~10 times as much in his fight against McGregor than in his other two fights with revealed payouts.

  • Derrick Lewis arrested, charged with reckless driving after allegedly doing 136 mph in Lamborghini
  • 136 mph in a 50 mph zone "while also weaving in and out of traffic". If that is the full story, he really should go to jail for that imho. Sad to see that he is such an irresponsible person.

    Georgia Approves ONE Championship Ruleset

Georgia follows Colorado in allowing knees to grounded opponents and 12-6 elbows for ONE, so maybe we'll eventually get them in UFC as well. More infos in Magraken's Twitter thread: https://twitter.com/erikmagraken/status/1718126013581033528
