Linux in the corporate space
  • Can you please share some info about why office 365 is in a dangerous spot in Germany? Very based country btw, this might be the reason why they donated 1M to GNOME project, considering it public interest project.

  • Kagi, view my stats?
  • Kagi is doing surprizingly nice job with the search results. I was an early adopter with beta program, and can happily tell that it has been several months since last time I did the "g!". I'm in professional plan ($10 as of now). It is so good that I forget it's existence. It is just there and working nicely!

  • youtube getting more agressive blocking users after 3 videos
  • It is just an ask from the community. The app is free, you can use all the features free forever.

That being said, it is always ethical and a good choice to pay for the services you use, get value from.

  • Louis Rossmann - Reflections on repair: after 15 years
  • Yes.. I totally agree. I also think there will always be some sacred, little places, just like an oasis in a desert. They will be inaccessible, expensive, or maybe one day illegal, but they will exist, and it is my hope on this issue.

  • Louis Rossmann - Reflections on repair: after 15 years

TLDR is, now looking back at the whole image, Louis thinks he hasn't been able to do enough impact on industry, and it could have been better place without him.

I personally do not agree. I've always seen him as the face of Right To Repair movement. He has done a significant work on this field, and without Louis and passionate people like him, the industry would most certainly be worst than ever.

But unfortunately, this is the most one person can do. Average person simply doesn't care, and those who do, they are largely outnumbered. These companies are bigger than most countries, and have huge impact on world economy. Therefore, governments can't do (often, willingly, don't even try) much about their anti-consumer behaviors.

It is quite heartbreaking to see these kind of "self-questioning"s from the "right to repair guy" himself, but I simply can't blame him! He has been doing this advocacy for 15 years now, and unfortunately, it has only gotten worst. I doubt if the field will change to the better. Advancements will happen, but in its current form - consumers are just consumers. We have lost our particularity, and these corporations are fighting for us our attention span.

What do you think? Is there a light at the end, or are we living in it's best times?

Linux Desktop Market share keeps increasing, 3.19% now. +0.07% for August
  • Of course this won't happen. The day they release it, world will collapse because of the newly discovered vulnerabilities and stuff. Security over obscurity is major player in securities of closed source programs.

  • They say use whatsapp, they say use zoom
  • wow. I'll look into this, but last time I tried, that VM discovery thing made it unavailable to setup on linux. The remote desktop app shows available VMs after you authenticate with MS account. This most likely is done deliberately to prevent us from using linux.

  • Google search is over
  • Just checked on Kagi. It doesn't provide quick answer to this query, but that weird EmergentMind website is #1 on results. This is prolly because Kagi is taking some of the results from Google index, but good thing is, I can just block this website using lenses.

    Having Fun with Technology

Sorry if this is against community guidelines, but I couldn't find any rule that prohibits this. If there is any, please tell me, I'm open to remove the post.

--- Just randomly came across this one and it looked so good that I formatted my laptop (which runs windows, unfortunately for battery reasons) and did the set-up with this script. It is FOSS and very easy to use.

It can remove edge, cortana and other microsoft junk software, while being able to quickly install stuff, set-up profiles, etc.

Web Environment Integrity: What's Going On?

We (me with a friend) created this page https://openwebdefenders.org and planning to create banners for websites that may want to inform their users on what's going on.

If anyone wants to contribute somehow or have other ideas I would be happy to discuss on https://github.com/openwebdefenders/web/issues
