  • Well I'm forty now and about 6 months ago I decided that after nearly 30 years of listening to metal music I was going to finally learn how to do harsh vocals/metal screaming. Still an enormous amateur, and I have a lot to learn, but basically just this week I finally got to the point where I don't hate listening to my own screams.

So uh, whatever you wanna call that midlife crisis, that's mine.

  • Real talk, we have to figure out how to handle this kind of chronic fear and paranoia, because this shit ain't normal, but it is frighteningly common.

Like yeah this is a hilariously over-the-top example, but the amount of people you and I both know who go through life genuinely thinking that they're going to be the victim of a kidnapping or worse at any given time is astounding. And it's not without impact either, because this is exactly the unfounded sense of fear that conservatives/fascists seize on to manipulate the population.

I don't know the solution, but a world where everyone is afraid of their own shadow is a literal hellscape.

  • It's also not free. I am paying for these things. These are the things I want my tax money going towards. I'm not asking for free handouts, I'm asking for smart and workable application of my taxes for the betterment of society.

  • Alright, fair, I'll take the note on your use of deviant as a response to my unfathomable comment. I did not mean to imply your thinking was deviant, as that word comes with a negative suggestion, just incomprehensible, but I understand the ambiguity. So I retract my comment on victimhood with that new context.

I don't retract the rest of my ire though, sorry, and now I'm confused as hell, because in what world are people who engage in casual sex the same ones berating people for being horny, and how is that relevant to the conversation at hand? I feel like I accidentally skipped a couple important chapters in the book that is this discussion.

  • Show me where I said we should reject all human progress and revert to animals.

No, I simply said we should evaluate the social choices made by humanity, even ones as old as clothing. I'm not saying we should reject it all; I'm saying we should be thoughtful and investigate these things to find out if they hold true or not.

Personally, I think in the case of nudity and shame, we'll quickly find it doesn't really hold much water beyond empty religious mumbo-jumbo.

And who exactly is calling you a deviant for liking clothing? Was it not you who came in with the statement, "Nudists are weird people and I wouldn’t accept what they have to say about sexuality at face value," and now you're trying to act like you're just responding to some sort of victimization from nudists of all people after throwing the first punch? Come on, dude.

But I'm sure it all does just come down to religious mumbo-jumbo bullshit for you because you said "perverts who enjoy casual sexual encounters," as if a healthy casual sexual encounter is somehow a "perversion."

So, like... grow up and get better opinions, maybe?

  • My guy we are literally the only creature on the entire planet with a sense of shame who covers our body. If you don't think there's benefit to at least understanding why this enormous difference exists, I can't even begin to fathom what your mind is like

  • Half the drama in all romance, not just rom-coms, would be entirely avoided if relevant characters were engaging in healthy adult communication. Anime is far from the worst offender in the unhealthy relationships regard.

  • I agree with the sentiment that loli shit is disgusting, but the problem is that so many of you sexless prudes go in looking for shit to be offended by and start projecting onto shit that's fine. Like the character Kusano in Sekirei is fully gross, a disgusting pedo-bait character that simply should not exist in the story, period. That shit should absolutely be rallied against.

But then y'all bring up shit like Momo from MHA like it's the same thing. It's fucking not, at all. A post or near post-adolescent character wearing titillating attire in much the same way that comparable real life pop stars do is just not even remotely on the same level as actual children being depicted as sexual viable partners, especially in the context of a story like MHA where the protag is a literal high schooler expressing romantic interest in his age-appropriate peers.

And "glorifying unhealthy relationships" is fine enough critique I suppose but one that hardly applies solely, or even primarily, to manga and anime.
