Trump’s ‘America First’ Policies Are Diminishing U.S. Global Influence

  • It's a hard line to walk as a moderator. I share the frustration with my party but the over simplification of "all conservatives" sometimes pushes me to step in... Even if I still somewhat agree. I understand the dubvee folks wanting to take a big step back.

  • I am a data driven person. I blame my more liberal opinions on things like facts. I wish our media talked more in tables and charts than emotions, but it’s frustrating how easy it is to spin numbers to say almost anything. I don’t think there’s an easy fix — just a lot of messy nuance we don’t always have patience for.

The data is out there, but I wish it was more in our faces. It's almost like this is important or something. /s

  • Some of my family members are more conservative than I am (which isn’t hard, admittedly). They vote based on what they believe benefits them and their families. From their perspective, that's reasonable — why should they vote with others in mind if no one else does?

The idea that "I vote for what I want, you vote for what you want, and we'll get what most people want" sounds democratic, but it's also dangerously simplistic. It assumes everyone has equal power, equal knowledge, and that the system functions perfectly. I believe it's a large factor in the division we're seeing but I can't say which came first.

Most US adults think the GOP tax bill will help the wealthy and harm the poor, AP-NORC poll finds

  • I feel most of the loud MAGA you hear believes a little too strongly in "history is written by the victors" and don't have enough self reflection to realize they can't always be the victors. It's arrogant and disconnected.

  • Watch your last line there. This community exists because conservative comms already on Lemmy didn't represent me and my beliefs. I also believe Trump is all those things. I see a lot of my party mates drinking the MAGA KoolAid and I am not alone.

Fox News falls in line with Trump’s Epstein plea — but will the rest of MAGA media comply?

  • I believe it is a sane response for a person to try to avoid needing self defense. It's not my response (if that tells you anything about me) but I can respect it. I believe most non-gun owners (specifically those that don't even WANT a gun) believe that their place in the city is safe enough that they don't need a lethal weapon. But you can't control every situation.

I have a few guns. I absolutely adore the sport of it. I hope I never need to use them in self defense, but when seconds matter the cops are minutes away.

  • Lawyers have an ethical obligation to represent their clients to the best of their ability, so intentionally doing a poor job could be considered a violation and put their license at risk.

I'd rather see Trump bring his best lawyers and rightfully lose in broad daylight anyway.

  • Since the start of the Trump administration, the FBI has ramped up their use of polygraphs, or lie-detector tests. Used in the past to suss out whether employees can be trusted with secret information, the FBI under Director Kash Patel has a new application for polygraphs: Sniffing out whether employees have ever said anything mean about their boss, the controversial right-wing figure himself.
