Proton Mail Long-Term Reliability

For those of you who have been using Proton Mail for a year or longer, how reliable have you found it? Have you encountered any instances where websites didn't accept or didn't deliver to you Proton email address? Have you ever had trouble accessing Proton Mail while travelling?

I'm looking to try some of the Proton services soon, so I'd appreciate some honest experience from real users. Thanks!

What's your favourite open source app and why?
  • I've looked at it a few times, but I've never got around to setting it up. I think my first try would be with Nextcloud, then moving to a dedicated server if that proves too slow or unreliable. Has it been much maintenance for you, or mostly fire-and-forget?

  • [SOLVED] Plex (and Jellyfin too) don't see the content of /media (docker/debian)
  • That's it! If you don't specify a host path, i.e. the path before the colon, Docker will create an volume which saves any changes you make to that path in the container, but won't mount any existing path from the host to the container.

  • Drive into the Future with the Best Apple CarPlay Head Units
  • Are such third-party devices trustworthy? A few months ago it turned out that a lot of Android set top boxes that you can buy on Amazon come with pre-installed spyware that you can't remove. Wouldn't the same be a risk here?

  • What's your go-to Android Browser and why?
  • Firefox and Vivaldi. Both have ad blockers and bottom address bar. With Firefox I use some additional add-ons, like Consent-o-Matic, but the Vivaldi interface is nicer and very customizable. I also use the DDG browser for occasional searches.

  • People are getting fed up with all the useless tech in their cars — For the first time in 28 years of JD Power’s car owner survey, there is a consecutive year-over-year decline in satisfaction, wit...
  • CarPlay and Android Auto actually work well, and you can use the apps that you already have on your phone. The screens are generally more convenient and restrict view less than a phone holder stuck to the window. But without those, I agree that I'd rather have no screen than one with crappy media controls and the car's own navigation.

  • Android: Liftoff loses open state too quickly

On my Android phone, switching away from Liftoff to another app usually causes it to unload. So, when I switch back, it loses the scrolling position I had left, which means I have to start again at the top. Other apps on my phone don't do this, and apps used before Liftoff don't get unloaded, so I don't think this is a memory usage issue.

Has anyone else noticed the same?

What dish sponges do you use?

It is more efficient to buy cheap supermarket sponges and replace them more often, or do you find that more expensive options are worth the additional cost?

Auto-Update for Apps in Samsung Deep Sleep?

When you put apps in deep sleep on a Samsung device, they're disabled unless you interact with them. This also removes them from the Play Store updates page, so they don't get updated.

Is there a way to keep installing updates for apps in deep sleep without manually going through each one?

    [REQ] Customizable Animation Speed

Would it be possible to have an option to speed up (but not completely disable) animations? On my Android phone, Thunder animations are much slower than everything else in the system, so even just respecting the system setting would be great. Thanks!

What is the state of rootless ad blockers for Android?

Several years ago, I used Blockada, which was frequently recommended. According to some discussion threads, it seems to have fallen from grace.

What ad blocker that doesn't require root do you use? What's your experience with it? Would you recommend it?

Recommend me a TLC NVMe for PCIe Gen 3

    Hi,

I want to buy an NVMe disk for storage and games. I want a TLC drive for reliability, but maximum sequential read performance is not important. I only have PCIe Gen 3 with no plans to upgrade in the near future.

Can you comment on whether I should look at a Samsung 970 Plus, a Crucial P5, or something else?

Edit: I would want something with a DRAM cache if possible.

    Thanks.

What Are You Brewing This Weekend?

    Hi all,

I think it would be great to start a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly bean review and recommendation thread. Back in the days of the lockdowns, I found lots of great roasters on /r/Coffee and /r/Espresso, and I think it's generally interesting to see what others are using.

So, tell us about coffees that you've had recently, where they're grown and who they're roasted by, how you're preparing them, and anything else you'd like to share!

If you comment, please also let me know your thoughts on having this as a recurring discussion and how often you'd like to see it.

    Cheers!

Can we get a weekly app recommendation thread?

I liked the Saturday APPreciation threads on /r/Android and found them really useful for discovering new apps. How about we get something similar rolling here?

Chrome may soon allow screenshots in Incognito mode
    www.androidpolice.com Chrome’s Incognito mode gets a privacy-preserving screenshot option

Take a look at the long-overdue Incognito screenshot support coming to Chrome on Android

Chrome’s Incognito mode gets a privacy-preserving screenshot option

I use private browsing a lot for the automatic site data clearing. Several browsers restrict taking screenshots in private windows, which is only an inconvenience to me. I hope more browsers will allow the user to decide if screenshots are allowed on their own device.

S21 FE battery usage from 5G and 120 Hz

The S21 FE doesn't have an LTPO display, so you can run it at either fixed 60 Hz or fixed 120 Hz; there's no dyanmic scaling. For those of you who own one, what difference in battery usage do you notice from running the display at 60 Hz vs 120 Hz?

Furthermore, the modem in the SD888 is not the most efficient around. How does you battery life compare when you have 5G enabled (and actually connect to a 5G network) vs staying on 4G only?
