  • The real answer is that "white" isn't really a race. It's a socioeconomic in-group that exists to other those who aren't collectively agreed to be a part of it. Over time, a formerly racialized group may achieve "whiteness" via assimilation, like the Irish, Italian, and Jewish populations in America.

  • Reddit, at least the corporation and increasingly the userbase, is definitely in the process of shifting to the right. Lemmy is the kind of alternative social media the person you're replying to is advocating.

  • Look, I just liked the tax part, that's why I voted for it. More housing would be fantastic, but for now I take solace in the fact that it passing made a lot of people unhappy.

  • Technology is one of the most politically charged topics possible. Even leaving aside big tech and AI stuff, you have the ideologues behind the open source movement, or the fact that a lot of our modern tech infrastructure is built on conflict resources and manufactured by forced labor. Politics ripple through every aspect of our lives.

  • That is a wild leap to make. Just mind boggling. Dogs are not people, and people are not dogs. If that were not the case, a lot of the behavior and culture around dogs would be alarming, at best.

  • My favorite "theory" about this is based on the fact that they shot a reaction cut of Obi-Wan looking suspicious, implying that Han thought they were a couple rubes that wouldn't know what a parsec was. That would mean it wasn't a mistake, and you don't need to come up with the convoluted shit other people have to justify it.
