Wenn ich also meine Heizung anschalte, dann werden nicht mir die entstehenden Emissionen zugeschrieben, sondern Shell, weil die halt das Gas gefördert haben. Was genau daran der Erkenntnisgewinn sein soll, hat sich mir noch nie erschlossen. Wissen die meisten Menschen nicht, dass eine kleine Anzahl von Unternehmen den Markt der fossilen Energiegewinnung dominieren? Wohl kaum. Ändert das irgendwas an der Schwierigkeit, von fossilen Energieträgern wegzukommen? Nein.
Aber es ist schon klar, warum diese "Statistik" im Internet so beliebt ist und seit Jahren die Runden macht. Man kann sich richtig geil dabei fühlen, dass man selber für nichts verantwortlich ist.

Foreign policy seems to just not be very relevant to the average citizen. The effect probably is there, sure, but it's marginal at best. Really egregious things can be significant, like actual wars and such, but hypocrisy is not material.

Diese Rechnung funktioniert aber auch, nur wenn man starrsinnig bei unbereinigten Datensätzen bleibt. Wenn man vernünftigerweise konsum-basierte Emissionen betrachtet, dann ist es egal wo etwas produziert wird, die Emissionen werden dem Ort zugeschrieben, der es nutzt.
Ob eine Batteriefabrik in China oder in Europa steht, macht für die 2° keinen Unterschied.
