  • squidward, his nose wilted

  • fortunately the US recently solved this problem by simply making it "legal" to toss people out even if they're actively shoving proof of their citizenship in the face of an ICE agent

  • right wingers will accept that explanation and then start screeching about made-up stories of mexicans bringing birthing machines onto US soil to replace the population

  • we do have a solution, it's called treating people like people and telling them to fuck off when they misbehave, and if moderators don't stop misbehaving then you move.

i feel like every time people complain about things being bad and oh so difficult to solve there's a blitheringly obvious social solution that has been used for millions of years that is for some reason being ignored

  • there is a decentralized reddit clone, it's called lemmy lmao

being decentralized doesn't mean you have no moderation

  • take a walk where? spend money on gas to go to a nature area, or do 5 laps around the neighbourhood?
huge swaths of suburban america are literally not possible to leave by foot

libraries are similarily shitty in large parts of the US, that is if one even exists anywhere near you.

  • cloning is pretty simple: you end up in both places. there's no magical continuity of experience, both clones are equal and will 100% feel like the original and have equally valid claims to such, and to a third observer it would basically just look like two very confused identical twins who share their memories before the cloning.
You obviously wouldn't end up with a single conscience experiencing both points of view at once, lmao.

it's just like copying data on a computer, it's all the same data so it's nonsensical to call any copy the "original".

  • the fact that right-wingers don't emit a loud filmreel sound at all times is truly a testament to technological advances

  • i don't think soap with grit added would have ever been considered a luxury product, low-quality soap still looks way prettier

  • gotta make sure to punch yourself in the face as you're about to hit the ground, to give yourself some i-frames and thus cheekily negate the fall damage.

or just outright parry the ground approaching you, dealing massive damage to the planet and even giving you some health back

  • not to worry, plenty of people type with a single finger flying across the keyboard, many still know cramping fingers 🥰

  • it's only a problem if you think the sole thing defining "you" is an intangible soul that for some reason wouldn't just transfer between or get copied alongside instances of yourself

the line of reasoning you talk about has always been so strange to me, you'd be talking to a person walking out of a transporter and insist they're dead, as they look you in the eye and ask if that's an insult

  • it's just the ship of theseus, at what point do you consider it a new ship?

like think about it, people only start questioning if it's the same person after they learn how transporters work, doesn't that indicate that it really doesn't matter? if people can go their entire lives with neither them nor anyone around them noticing a difference, how could they somehow be a different person?

  • but then on the flipside there's stuff like star trek, which since it's literally the inspiration for cellphones is remarkably normal

even the fucking tricorders aren't that far off these days, just today i used an app on my phone to identify plants automatically for fuck's sake, that's insane!

  • trans men are cheating because they still consider them women, and women aren't allowed to be good at sports.

it somehow always manages to boil down to misogyny with these people

  • 64% of icelanders live in the capital region, which is like two thirds of the US living in maine

  • i'd say you can be atheist and believe in ghosts/spirits, that's pretty different from divine beings

the core thing about divinity is power, power to do things or power to have done things in the past or future. spirits and ghosts generally have power comparable to living people, so the lack of obvious evidence for their existence isn't anywhere near as big of an issue as with deities capable of altering the fabric of reality.

it's not that incongrous that we'd fail to notice things that can barely interact with us, but an explicitly omnipotent and omniscient god? they can damn well write "hey ho here i am!" in the clouds.

  • neurodivergence is seeing a boom in diagnoses because we now actually fucking diagnose neurodivergence instead of going "yeah the kid's a retard dump em in the bin"

  • huh? that's absolutely how AI can work, it's all statistics and if the prompt includes "you are Grok, an AI built by xAI" then combined with the associations between xAI and elon in its training data it's not far fetched that the statistics plinko inside it would favour parroting the founder's opinions.
