  • Naxos is a great place! Stayed there for a week by mistake (booking site error) and enjoyed it immensely. Very happy accident.

  • Call it "Xubmarine 420" and tell him he invented it. I think he'd take that bait.

  • I already had the motivation to drive correctly, getting upset wouldn't improve that motivation, just make driving more difficult.

I pride myself on being a safe and courteous driver. We all make mistakes, especially when learning.

  • When I started driving again recently after a 20 year hiatus I was getting upset when I made mistakes; running stop signs, forgetting indicators, etc.

But then I realised all I was doing was making it hard to concentrate, which could lead to more errors, maybe even a fatal crash.

I quickly adopted this "Oops that was illegal but it's fine" attitude. Notice my mistake, and move on.

  • I came here to comment that Melbourne had a few train and tram drivers that were very chatty and brightened your commute. I don't miss trying to change at South Yarra at rush hour, though.

  • Samurai Shodown series has an amazing soundtrack. A mix of traditional Japnese sound, rock music, chaotic jazz, and ambient sound that barely resembles a song. The ending of 3 is my ultimate 'get pumped' song:

  • Free as in freedom (libre), not free as in free beer (gratis).

  • Thanks to the kind stranger(s) who finished off my "RICE LOVE" doodle (top right) while I was sleeping <3

  • Heh, what a niche community to stumble across! My wife and I have been nomads with one bag each since 2016, with a 2-year break whilst lockdowns were a thing. Started with 10kg bags, but post-pandemic all the airlines are 7kg max for free carry-on, so we've downsized. This has meant some further weight-saving changes:

    • A very light canvas bag! Less pockets, less zips, etc.. more weight for what goes in the bag. We got the Decathlon 25L forclaz. Only one zip, but has a sleeve for laptop, and three extra slip pockets (one takes my umbrella, another my water bottle, and the front one paperwork).
    • Zip-off quick-dry cargo pants with zip-up pockets. I have two pairs (again from Decathlon). Don't need separate shorts or swimming trunks. Zip-up pockets keep everything safe in crowded areas, no need for a day bag/bum bag/sling bag. When combined with thermals gives great protection from the cold, and can't be pierced by mosquitos when in the tropics.
    • Clothing is 2 zip-off trousers, 8 underpants, 5 pair matching socks, 4 t-shirts, 1 shirt, 1 pair thermals, 1 pair wool gloves, beanie, and my kick-ass waterproof, lined-coat with hood (from Workman, Japan - great sturdy, but light-weight stuff). Do proper laundry once a week wearing trousers on rotation, each shirt/socks twice... unless in the tropics, then I can (and have to) wash things every day.. just in the sink and hang up to dry, then still do a proper wash once a week to get them nice and clean. My wife has three less shirts, replaced with dresses.
    • USB-C everything. No need for bulky power bricks and extra cables. Phones, laptops, even my shaver... except I got rid of my electric shaver since downsizing to on weight (using disposable instead - wish I could take safety razor on planes!)
    • I got rid of my packing cubes and my wife went down to just one packing cube. We now just properly unpack our clothes at each accommodation. We try to spend at least a week at each stop (for the discounts!), so not a pain.
    • A zip-up flannel. This is what we keep our toiletries in... and also works as a flannel if we need one (like to make an ice bag for an injury, or clean up a mess (thanks random bird in Amsterdam!)
  • We stayed in a few different places across BC and Alberta. I can remember they all had drip coffee machines, but I can't actually remember if they were equipped with kettles, too! That being said, the addition of drip coffee makers could have been for American tourists (I did make good use of them though).

  • I think it's a default item everywhere except north America.

As part of reviewing a stay, Airbnb always asks if the place had a coffee maker. I've only ever ticked yes in the US, Canada, and Indonesia.

(edit: I should clarify, it asks if there was a coffee machine, but it DOESN'T ask if there was a kettle, showing the US-centric app design.)

  • We can laugh and learn at the same time!

Enjoy the meme, then go to the comments for some jokes and insight into a topic you wouldn't otherwise research.

  • My point was that they completely absent from most countries. My hypothesis being that if there was a common task these vehicles were particularly suited to they would be more ubiquitous. I can't help but think their success is due to marketing and masculine appeal rather than practicality.

  • The only places I've seen trucks like the 2500HD are north America, Australia and Thailand. They usually have only one, or rarely two people people in them. They never have a significant load in the bed. Everywhere else uses vans and light trucks and gets along just fine..

  • Although I haven't explicitly heard anything, I kind of assumed, given the years it's been on my wishlist :D.

I'll play it one day, but Dyson Sphere is still filling that hole for me for now.

  • SO many hundreds of hours spent playing the Q2 mod Action Quake. I heard they remade it and called it, uh, something like "Counter Strike"? Never got into that one, funnily enough.

  • Brilliant series. I enjoyed the combat and storytelling in equal measure. One of the few single-player games where I'd actually play the challenge maps, just because it was so fun beating up on mobs!

  • Plants Vs. Zombies!

My wife and I just sat there like... zombies... for the whole day and night until we finished it, and then went to bed surprised and happy when we got our musical reward at the end!

The Flash gaming era at it's best.

  • I know a few of the devs on this title but always forget about actually playing it. I think because it's story-heavy and I followed the development closely I feel like I've already played it :D.
