Favorite Birthday Meals
  • Happy birthday!

I'm usually simple, haha. Grilled new York strip steak, grilled corn on the cob, onion strings, and a dollop of creamy mashed potatoes.

    Either that or carbonara.

Lemon bars, banana pudding (with nilla wafers), or my great grandma's angel food cake recipe for dessert.

    Good luck figuring it out

  • Let's discuss: Slay the Spire
  • With Ironclad, I really love when you get a good strength build going. Demon Form early game is so cash money

With the Silent, Poison builds are my go to, but if you get a good something going with Shivs in the beginning, it's so much fun.

The Defect, I recently defeated A3 with a channel lightning build - where you channel for every time you get hit. I was channeling, i think 6 every hit and had +4 focus, so when the heart did the 4x12 attack, it destroyed itself. Felt incredible.

I haven't yet figured out a solid strat for The Watcher, but divinity is fun and I enjoy going full wrath, but having enough defense to back that up proves difficult.

In terms of similar games, if I'm feeling a little more casual/braindead, Peglin is a lot of fun with a similar deckbuilding style. I have yet to figure out any really good builds and I think some balls are definitely better than others, but it's still fun and super casual.

  • Let's discuss: Slay the Spire
  • Ironclad is so good to rely back on for consistent builds, I feel like. I think I have the most fun with The Silent and The Defect, personally, but Ironclad runs are just so straightforward and there's so many good builds.

  • Onenote alternatives

Hey all, I'm a Linux baby and just discovered all my Onenote notes for DnD aren't transferable to my new machine 🙃

I've seen a few alternatives, specifically Joplin, mentioned, but what I'm looking for is an editor that lets me move notes all around or type in random places like Onenote. I found Spiral, but it's not my favorite, though it does have what I need so far, if at a very bare and basic level.

Can anyone recommend anything with the 'type anywhere' functionality? I'm not even wholly invested in it being FOSS, but this seemed like the best place to ask. Thanks y'all

It's quiet around these parts 🤠 What have you been playing this week?
  • So. Much. Pathfinder 2e. And I love it.

I just had a session one for a Wednesday night campaign with a character I'm so excited to play. I have a Friday night campaign I really love with a great character. And my Sunday campaign is marching steadily onward - although I cannot wait to finish Gatewalkers so I can homebrew. Gatewalkers is fine and it's a lot of fun (the reveal in act 3 of the 1st book was incredible), but I hate running out of books. I love homebrew and I miss it dearly.

I've been trying to get together my friends IRL to play the beginner's box because I don't think I can ever go back to 5e after experiencing the ease at which PF balances everything. But schedules are, of course, the conflict.

  • Why does Canada have three of the world's most liveable cities?
  • My experience is only from Vancouver and though I've visited many times, I don't live there, but

The public transportation and mixed zoning is something that I wish every city had. The city is massive but it feels cozy and entirely accessible.

  • Current PC is too bad for Cities Skylines 2. Can anyone judge the PCPartPicker list I've put together?
  • 2x22" is what I have already and it fits my desk well and it's not too much, if that makes any sense. I'm going to also look at an ultrawide physically over the weekend and see how it feels, but i like to snap windows to the sides of the screens and I don't know enough about ultrawides to know if you can do that easily, haha

  • Current PC is too bad for Cities Skylines 2. Can anyone judge the PCPartPicker list I've put together?

This is based off the "Great tier" AMD build, but I'm waffling a bit on the price. I don't really know a whole lot about PC specs, but I read this is supposed to be a good long-lasting build based on the DDR5 and something newer in the CPU or Video card. That being said, I've only really ever build mid-tier and while I do want something nice, I'm just not sure it's necessary for me? I tend to stick to Indie titles and the most demanding game I've played lately was BG3 (which my current PC has to be on med-low settings to run).

Also, if anyone has a good 22" monitor recommendations I'll take them.

Pf2e GMs, what tools to you use to choose your monsters?

Long time 5e DM, switched to 2e about 6 months ago and have been running an AP in that time. However I have come to a spot in the adventure with some wiggle room and I want to homebrew a few side quests and such. However, I'm fairly overwhelmed with the sheer amount of monsters, so what are your go-tos for picking the right one for the job? For 5e I had donjon and aidnd.

Also... Treasures? How do you choose for those? Gatewalkers feels fairly sparse on giving money and magic items or trinkets to the characters, so I'd like to look at a few that might work... Do I just hop on AoN and scroll through everything?

Stray Animated Movie in the Works - IGN
  • On the one hand, Annapurna seems to know what they're doing - Nimona was fantastic. On the other hand, I think it's going to be hard to make this into a movie. I'm assuming they'll focus on the journey of the cat and the environment around it, but they'll have to fill all of the other space, hopefully with the robots and their personalities.

  • New project of mine
  • I've seen an uptick in shirts and bumper stickers along the same lines and they always make me happy. "You are valued" "You're beautiful" "I hope something good happens to you today". They're great messages and seeing them worn or displayed is a force of positivity more people need, for sure.

  • Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of September 3rd
  • I picked up Slay the Spire after kinda recently learning about deck building games and how much I apparently love them. Been having a bunch of fun and beat the game for the first time just recently. Now I have to do it with the other characters :3

  • Favorite uses for cucumbers
  • Absolutely this. I make a slightly different version.

Halve a few cucumbers, chop into 1/2" pieces, I then crush line under a plate or bowl, not to pulp but just to break them up some. Salt and set aside for a few minutes to draw some moisture out. Drain, then add a tbsp or so of gochujang, a clove or so of garlic, tsp or so sesame oil, splash ponzu, 1 tsp sugar, and chili flakes to taste.

Honestly I've even just parsed it down to gochujang and sesame oil and it's great.

Excellent side dish to so many things.

  • Recommendations of non-Apple products with similar longevity?
  • I can't say if the quality is still the same, but I bought a Chromebook when they first came out for $99 and that little buddy has lasted me a decade now. It's seen me through a deployment, a degree, several moves, and has been through a load of abuse and come out the other side working as spiffy as day one, minus some scuff on the screen. (Unfortunately Google has recently aged it out, but I'll find a use for it with a virtual machine perhaps).

I imagine most little netbooks are similarly built and can withstand a boatload, although their computing power definitely lacks.

  • Just got a Samsung phone after years and years on a moto/droid. What apps should I get to up the qol?

New motos are just too big for my baby hands so I got myself an s23 for a steal, but I'm finding that I miss some of the functionality that I used to have, and that some features are just annoying on this phone.

What kind of qol apps do you galaxy-havers use? Specifically are there any that let me use more than just double tap and long press on the power button for quick actions?

Note: I don't know if I can jailbreak it and keep my carrier. I use Google fi so it seems like breaking it would break everything? But I have no idea :3

    Little Nightmares III Announced
  • I was over the moon for a second because of the studio switch. But I goofed and was thinking Supergiant Studios, not Supermassive. Still, Supermassive has some decent hitters under the belt. Hopefully everything goes well.

  • Starfinder Second Edition announced!
  • I absolute love the action system from PF2e as well and I'm so super stoked to hear they're working that into Starfinder.

From what I saw, the class they put out in that "playtest" sounds pretty awesome. I don't think it's really an answer to a PF fighter, but it is awesome to have a Heavy with some AOE and crowd control. I think it needs some tweaking, but I am not nearly good enough at balance and game design to suggest what.

But it being compatible also hopefully means the enemies can be used interchangeably in some ways because those laser wolves are amazing.

  • [Meta] Can we add a rule to include genres to song links that are posted?

I love new music, but I don't follow links to music unless I know I'll like the genre. For anyone that migrated, r/listentothis is my prime example (I don't know if they ever came back online, so I'm unsure if anyone can go back to reference)

    Example - title, artist [genre]

Wolves of the Revolution, The Arcadian Wild [folk][bluegrass]

Have you ever been at the junction of a fork in your life's road and not known what to do? How did you get through it?

I'm currently at this juncture and trying to decide whether to go back to school and start entirely fresh or to hold out for another year or two to see how things go. The anxiety of what the future may or may not hold is real and I'm just standing here, watching the distances shorten faster and faster while still not knowing.

    What's your take, Beeple?
