a real "divide by zero" moment

Imagine texting a friend every day. Like, being fully in the back and forth, talking about whatever. That's gotta be a good feeling.

Good thing we have all these acronyms to get mad at

Fun fact, if you did this in 1861, the Civil War would've featured a generic "five elemental stones" quest of some type involving five former presidents.

I also like the idea of the "bosses" of the Civil War being presidents who failed to stop it, and in some cases made it worse. Fun stuff

edit: we've had five living former guys at multiple points, I just think the 1861 occurrence is narratively funny. Lincoln gesturing wildly while the five previous guys shrug

edit 2: from now on the president is called "the guy"

I worked Back of House at a department store and I consistently didn't have to talk to customers. Lifting boxes and sorting merchandise is physically demanding, however.

Long nails will never make sense to me, on a good day I bump into things and hit my hand on stuff, I just imagine impaling myself or them all flying off at the same time somehow.

I try not to judge, but having 6 inch long colorful fingers is justsomething that I don't get. like, how you do stuff? Like scroll on your phone or type. I imagine it's like using stilts, but I don't know.

I'm not trying to insult people who have their nails done, it's just a thing I wonder

If you're a loner, or someone who is used to little interaction or interactions only happening through texting, email, etc. LLMs are tempting in that they don't take much more effort to say stuff to than modes of communication you're already used to, with immediate feedback that give you a little rush at first, but wears off.

I've tried a few times. All it does is agree with you and spit the same turns of phrase, the same formats, etc. right back at you. it's a mimicry of a perfect echo chamber that will repeat itself and never tell you to stop talking to it.

But when you close the app, you're alone with your thoughts. That is a scary, scary thing for people.

edit: like people say, it's generative, it's literally making an impression of what people say. I always remember this and then it's like, oh I'm talking to a pile of pillows that looks like a person from just this angle.
