Wayland KDE screens wake from sleep

Hey everyone

Not sure if this is the right place to ask. I have been experiencing this issue for a while now. I'm convinced it's something to do with my monitor setup. When I use a Wayland session my monitors refuse to sleep! On X11 they sleep as expected when the screen is locked. On Wayland they go to sleep, flash the "entering power save" message and then turn back on. Here is my current and previous setups that both experienced the exact same issue.

Current: OS: Arch Linux x86_64 Host: B550M Steel Legend Kernel: 6.4.10-arch1-1 DE: Plasma 5.27.7 WM: kwin CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (12) @ 3.700GHz GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 7900 XT/7900 XTX Memory: 4705MiB / 32018MiB

Previous 2 configurations: DE: GNOME 43-44 WM: Mutter GPU: RTX 3080 (everything else is the same except kernel) DE: GNOME 41-43 WM: Mutter GPU: GTX 1080ti (everything else is the same except kernel)

I've tried running this command I found on stack overflow:

/bin/sleep 1 && /bin/dbus-send --session --dest=org.kde.kglobalaccel /component/org_kde_powerdevil org.kde.kglobalaccel.Component.invokeShortcut string:'Turn Off Screen'

Note: && should be && but lemmy is sanitizing it and won't let me put ampersands in code blocks

but no luck. Any ideas on how to fix this?

End of an era: Zoom tells employees to return to office for work
  • My company is starting to do this as well. They say it’s to “build culture in market”. Really they just want to force you to interact with your coworkers to make things feel less transactional and to keep tabs on people

  • Today i installed arch linux for the first time
  • Somehow mkinitcpio broke my initramfs the other day when I installed the latest microcode updates. Took me like an hour to debug the issue and boot from the fallback 😑. That’s the first time I’ve had an issue like that though. I’ve been using arch for a few years now.

  • Which widgets are must haves?

Hey all! Just switched from gnome to KDE and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of widgets and customization available. Which widgets are your favorite that I should add to my system?

I'm just so tired after work
  • I’m having a lot less fun with totk than I did with botw 😞. It’s like combination of too many quests, too many caves and being forced to build stuff all the time. I just want to climb mountains, glide, find cool weapons and do shrines. I also hate not having the shrine radar like in botw. I feel like I’m roaming blindly and getting 1 shot by enemies all the time

  • Some kbin.social communities not viewable from my instance
  • Oh interesting how does the federation process work? I’m not even able to find this community/magazine by searching from my instance. When I search for it it shows no results. If I search for kbin.social I only see about 10 or so magazines

Some kbin.social communities not viewable from my instance

Hey guys I noticed this morning while trying to search for !leagueoflinux@kbin.social from my instance that it is not found. The community browser can't find the community and I'm not able to see any posts if I type in the url for it directly. If I access the community from a different lemmy instance I'm able to see the posts. Here is an example:

    can't see the posts:

    can see the posts:

What causes this and is there any way for me as a user living on this instance to fix this?

    Thanks

Edit: Idk how to fix the urls but if you copy / paste the text into the url bar manually it works

Does anyone actually enjoy working out?
  • For me it’s about making it a routine and part of your daily life. I started out with 3 days a week lifting and now do 3 days lifting and 3 days cardio. I find it’s easier to stick to and enjoy if it’s something I do everyday. The other thing I’ve noticed is you really need to pay attention to nutrition and sleep too. Working out is a lot easier/ more enjoyable if you are providing your body with the nutrients it needs and getting enough sleep. If you just eat junk food you’re going to feel like junk when you workout

  • Is AMD really that much better?

    Hey everyone,

I'm currently rocking a 3080 I bought second hand in my Arch Linux rig. It works great under xorg but not so much wayland. There are a number of bugs and gaming performance is worse. I would like to use wayland in general for the mixed refresh rates with dual monitors. My question is: Is AMD really that much better than Nvidia? Is the AMD experience issue free with wayland? Also, how is hardware encoding with AMD? I'm particularly curious how performance is for game streaming with sunshine. I currently use nvenc hardware encoding which is amazing and feels like there is no latency. Does AMD have a similar experience?

    Thanks!

  • I’m in the same boat. I use mostly stock gnome to avoid experiencing bugs. I used KDE for a bit and loved it but never really loved how many options the settings gave me. I would also constantly run into issues with the docks disappearing when unplugging monitors. In contrast docks on gnome just work. I really only use the Ubuntu dock extension on gnome

  • Flick stick vs trackpad

Hey everyone! What’s your preferred input method for fps games on the deck? I find myself going back and forth between flick stick and trackpad. For me trackpad feels more natural but flick stick feels more worth the time investment? If I spend time with flick stick on the deck then I could also use it when streaming moonlight to my tv or at my pc.

    Which do you guys prefer?
