Couldn't agree more tbh. Especially with the SoC. I understand the upside of a more powerful/efficient processor but this has rarely ever stuttered for me with my use case!
Yeah that was something that I also noticed too with the colour temperature. However, I tend to make my photos cooler. So for me it's something that I don't mind, but there have definitely been situations where it's even too cool for me, so I can understand that's frustration.
How is everyone enjoying their Pixel 8 experience?
Around the black Friday sales time, I tentatively switched from a Pixel 6 pro to an 8 pro. I was pretty nervous about the switch as my experience with the 6 pro was good but not great (specifically the battery life) and I didn't want the same to happen with the 8 pro. However, a few months on and I can say that my experience has been outstanding.
I never have to worry about battery life; the screen is bright and amazing; the face unlock is reliable and fast; and, it just feels like a more premium build compared to my 6 pro.
If you made the switch, what's your experience been like?
(Edit: P.S. I know I asked this question at launch in this sub but I love hearing long-term reviews 😅)
Also, how is the soft touch back? Much less slippery than the old glossy back?
The P6P doesn't have a macro lens I believe, so that will definitely be a nice quality of life improvement. Also the flat display is going to be something I can't wait for!
I did hear about the photosphere. I thought that may have been a bug and it was accidentally removed - I suppose not. I love the feature too, especially when travelling.
Good to know about the screen condition and trade in value. My screen has a very small crack near the top and I'm hoping it's not too much of an inconvenience when it comes time to trade in the phone haha. I'll have to test my luck using your method I reckon.
The good things you mentioned are great to hear! For some reason, the call quality somewhat lacked on my Pixel 5 and is just alright on my P6P.
Yeah being from AUS, I'm actually not too sure if I am missing some AI features. Which ones are you missing? Nonetheless, fingers crossed they reach all users sooner rather than later!
I am also the same with my phone's battery struggling when it is using mobile data compared to wifi. I'm hoping for your sake that it is just an optimisation issue and that it gets fixed over time. Especially as Google had mentioned the P8 was meant to be a more efficient product.
Hi Pixel 8 and 8 pro users, how has your experience with the new line of phones been so far? I'm still rocking a pixel 6 pro, and don't intend on upgrading this year; however, as a pixel nerd, I am curious about how the new phone is holding up? Has there been any noticeable improvements or compromises compared to your last device? Most importantly are you still enjoying it?
This looks so nice imo. I'm thinking of waiting for the pixel 9 or 10, but it'll be hard after seeing how good this is shaping up to be 🥲.
Hopefully the battery life see's some major improvements too!
Haha it definitely appeas that way! I would love test it out... I had a pixel tablet 😄. I'm just very interested in the product and waiting to potentially buy it if there are some good sales towards the end of the year. So I kinda thought to see if android 14 has improved people's initial experiences and whether it provided any quality of life improvements.
That's great that you're experiencing better battery life. I'm currently on the beta with my Pixel 6 Pro and I've also noticed the phone's battery has felt much better, especially in terms of Idle battery drain. Good to be us I suppose!
Yeah, I am definitely a fan of this setup. It looks great!
For those of you who have updated their Pixel Tablets to Android 14, how has it been so far? Has there been any noticeable differences (good or bad) since updating?
Hopefully they continue to keep adding more faces before launch. I have enjoyed the current options however I wouldn't mind seeing what other choices google can provide!
Thanks! Yeah I'm honestly very excited for the more compact design but fingers crossed it's close to colours I imagined 🤞
Lmao! Not horrible I suppose 😂
Following renders and the short video in the temperature sensor leak, we now have an even better “in hand” look at the Pixel 8 Pro...
Looks like there have been some more leaks with the Pixel 8 series. Personally I think it's looking good! What are your thoughts?
Personally, I'm hoping the Jade colourway somewhat resembles the Alpine Green iPhone colourway. Kinda like this (it was a quick edit so obviously it would be more refined).
That's a completely fair deal-breaker. I think I'm going to check it out once it releases and see if it feels smooth for a 60hz screen. Although, hopefully the future iterations bump up that refresh rate to 90hz or 120hz.
So this happened to me one time when I was about 8 or 9 years old. My brother and I shared a room upstairs at my dad’s place. At this house, we had a family dog who was predominantly an outdoor dog who rarely came inside and certainly was never allowed to sleep inside.
One time, at the dead of night, I woke up to hearing footsteps that sounded like my dog quickly running up the stairs. Being tired and young, I just assumed my father had let the dog inside the house. However, I could not see what it was since it was extremely dark in the room. But anyways, I pet it and it licked my hand. I then heard it run to my brother’s bedside and he woke up to pet it too. Soon after, it ran down the stairs and left.
Fast-forward to the morning, my brother and I were eating breakfast with our dad. As we all chatted, I asked dad why he let the dog in over night. He responded by saying: “I didn’t let the dog in the house and noted how the doors were all locked.” (which made sense as my dad religiously locks doors). I told him about what happened: he said it must have been a dream. My brother interjected saying: “I experienced it too.” My dad’s face dropped and he became visibly freaked out.
To this day, I have zero explanation for what occurred that night and what thing I pet. It's easily the creepiest experience I can recall.
Edit: fix
If Google can get some high quality keyboards and cases it will help draw buyers.
I completely agree. Although they may not be marketing the tablet as a productivity device, I think many people (including myself) will still use it for light tasks while travelling or heading away for a long-weekend due to its portability. So at least providing people the option to purchase high-quality accessories would be great imo.
All that said, I love the Nexus and Pixel phones I've had, love the Pixel Buds, and recently got a Pixel watch. So the tablet is a solid maybe.
Seeing as the majority of those devices have gone on sale fairly quickly after launch, im hoping the same happens with the tablet, would make it pretty enticing for me tbh.
Overall, I'm keen to see what's to come. I'll post an update to this community (sub-Lemmy??) if I end up biting the bullet and getting the tablet around its release.
Yeah, I think seeing the real-world reviews will make-or-break the decision for me. Definitely hoping it's successful enough so that Google can justify making future iterations but I don't think I'll buy one for that reason. I think adding a first-party keyboard for cases like you just mentioned though would definitely help make that decision for me too.
I’ve been thinking about getting the tablet once it releases, but I’m curious about what others are thinking and what their use cases are going to be. So, who’s buying it? And if so, why?
