When fighting Bernie, Dems are fighting with a base that is already aligned with them - ie one that they do not have a strong fear of alienating with their positions or attacks.
They should seriously reevaluate that because they have and they continue to alienate large numbers of people. This is an undeniable fact at this point.
No argument from me on the rest of your comment except for one small thing. The moderate that they're chasing is a mirage, and doesn't actually exist in the way that they think it does. These "moderates" don't actually hold moderate views when questioned about what they believe and what they would support. Progressive economic policy positions are overwhelmingly popular across the board, and many who call themselves moderates tend to have socially conservative or even regressive views.
It would not bode well for the future of discourse if lemmy.world of all places gets shut down for radicalism. Our instance is significantly more radical than lemmy.world. Can you imagine some ecofascist idiot who posted on slrpnk.net a couple times committing a terror attack and getting the instance taken down? I can, which is why this news should be very concerning.
Edit: Just looked through some of the bomber's comments and their replies and some users even pointed out that his rhetoric was reminiscent of ecofascism. Anti-natalism and ecofascism are ideological siblings. The backlash to this attack is going to catch environmentalist groups in the crossfire, with many environmental activists being accused of having anti-natalist views. Anyone who's ever advocated for degrowth might get lumped in with them.
In my experience half of frontend development is bending over backwards to make everything look and work exactly like the boss/client wants even when you know what they want sucks for users, so I feel you.
Equality could mean everyone gets one sack of rice regardless of their circumstances.
Equity could mean each person is given a type and quantity of food that is appropriate to their dietary needs and living situation.
Equality is easier to achieve and may be just fine if your goal is just to make sure everyone is provided the minimum basic necessities of life. Equity is more complicated and way more involved in making sure that people are getting what they need to be on equal footing with regards to everyone else. One bag of rice will be worth more to some than others, after all.
Thought-terminating cliché right here. You're already convinced that a better world isn't possible for a set of vague reasons known only to you, but you're too intellectually lazy to give it any thought.
I ask you to elaborate on why, not because I want to hear it (I've probably heard it before), but because I want you to actually think about it.
The problem is letting the AI digest the information for you. It is impossible to engage in critical thinking when you're not actually doing the thinking yourself.
It should leave a bad taste. I fully understand why it's deeply uncomfortable to make comparisons to the most horrific atrocities in history, but we have to reckon with that discomfort. I believe it is vitally important for people to understand that while what the Nazis did is exceptionally evil, it is not uniquely evil, lest we start to consider the relatively smaller scale atrocities committed by present-day fascist movements as somehow tolerable.
Another point is that there is no reason to suggest that atrocities of the same or greater scale than the Nazis committed cannot happen again. I know that you see the same thing I am seeing happening in the world right now, namely that fascism and systematic cruelty in general are trending upwards around the globe. It's not just that it can happen again, it will if we don't do enough to stop it.
When I compare Zionism to Nazism my primary point is that the fundamental values that motivate both ideologies are the same. The scale of the atrocities committed in the name of each is irrelevant to that point. Both are fascist ideologies and are underpinned by the same current of political thought. In that sense Zionism can be seen not as an entirely separate phenomenon, but a continuation of the same historical fascist project. They share the common goal of the "sorting of the races," envisioning a world in which each nationality has their own isolationist ethnostate competing for dominance and superiority.
To put it simply, all fascist movements are knots in the same thread that weaves its way through history, and they all build on and reinforce one another. Are there more apt comparisons to be made? Absolutely, but it would be ahistorical to try and sweep the myriad connections that Zionism has to Nazism under the rug, especially when you consider that Nazis had direct involvement in the beginnings of the Zionist project.
Why should it be the case that settler-colonial projects can only be compared to other settler-colonial projects? Fascism is fascism whether it's in support of settler-colonialism or imperial expansionism. Yes, it's a valid distinction to make, but it does not invalidate comparisons to Nazism.
What you're doing is a bit like seeing someone compare bees and ants on the basis that they are both colony builders and saying the comparison is inadequate because bees do it to make honey and ants don't.
Thank you for being level-headed. The people who accuse others of anti-semitism for comparing two fascist ideologies are doing fascist apologia, unwittingly or otherwise. The underlying implication of saying that "comparing Zionism to Nazism downplays Nazism" is that "Zionism isn't actually that bad." It ultimately doesn't matter which is worse, especially given that's something that could only be determined in hindsight. What matters is that it's happening again right before our eyes and it needs to be called out.
Comparing Nazism to Zionism does not downplay Nazism. They are comparable, and if saying that will earn me a ban from this instance I will accept my ban proudly.
In chapter 6 of the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga Yugi plays table hockey on a hot griddle with an ice puck containing a test tube full of explosives. Does that count as fire hockey?
Why, I am a dubious type, thank you for noticing. 😘
