  • This happens ahead of every Apple product launch. No one ever covers it except Apple focused sites.

  • VANOS is BMWs variable valve timing system

  • Ok, who put Foucault in charge of Jurassic Park?

  • iPhones have supported some form of fast charging since at least the iPhone 6. The included charger was usually 5W and I think they can currently take 20W fast charging

  • I still hear people complain about the switch from 30-pin to Lightning. People who aren't into tech are extremely resistant to change

  • The WebKit engine Safari uses is still open source, Gnome Web and Konqueror use it. It definitely has a small non-apple userbase but it's an option

  • Honestly, I doubt it. The state has been throwing their full weight against the Stop Cop City protestors from the beginning.

  • Fahrenheit is too granular, imo. In day to day life I almost always hear people talk about it in ranges of temperature (eg. "mid 70s") which defeats the point of having a more granular system.

  • I just want someone to finally copy column view from Finder. I know Ranger has it but it would be nice if Nautilus or Dolphin would implement it.

  • It's just a floating panel which is relatively new to KDE Plasma. The Plasma theme is Arch Round.

  • It was roughly 2 years between the M1 and M2 which is a longer time between generation refreshes than Intel and about on par with AMD. The A series updates roughly as often as the top tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 processors. Apple really isn't doing anything outside of industry norms here.

  • I'm glad Ars seems to have walked back its transphobia after the absolute shit-show that was its article about twitter screening a self identified fascist's transphobic screed that somehow came down on the side of the fascist.

  • This looks amazing. I've been looking for a replacement for Delicious Library for a long time and this looks like exactly what I've been looking for.

  • Funny you mention green bubbles, Apple has said they would pull iMessage and FaceTime from the UK rather than add a backdoor. Signal and WhatsApp have also said they would leave the market rather than comply and Google has opposed the bill but I haven’t personally seen any reporting on if they said they’d pull services from the UK.

  • I've been using 1Password since at least 2010 and been very happy with it so I've never seriously considered switching away from it. I've messed around with Bitwarden and thought it was pretty good though.
