  • You mention about getting an AMD cpu, and I've heard similar stories about Intel quality lately, however I've also heard in the past that AMD cpus aren't very good at going low power. Electricity is expensive and I want it to idle as low as possible. Plus for my build, I'd certainly make use of quicksync on an Intel CPU.

Any thoughts as I'm looking for opinions on the intel vs amd but also on my proposed build. Thanks

  • I just asked a very similar question over here: https://reddthat.com/post/29255208

Where I had put together a proposed self build and looking for feedback on it.

I've been running Unraid for a few years and it's been great and really user friendly as well.

  • Input on new server build

I'm looking to upgrade my old server to newer hardware as it's starting to show its age, and was hoping to get some input on what I was planning.

I currently run Unraid, which is handling about 15 Docker containers and 1 VM running Home Assistant OS. The Dockers are Plex and the usual arrs, Immich, and a handful of other relatively light weight ones.

I currently have 32tb storage, but want room to expand. I currently have a 2.5" SSD cache drive, but want to upgrade that to NVMe drives.

Low idle power usage is important as electricity is expensive where I am. It should also be fairly quiet.

I've put together the below build, but would appreciate any (constructive) input. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Nutbolt/saved/#view=rrchkL

HDDs I have already and will expand at a latter date. Mobo picked purely for the number of sata connectors. CPU I went Intel for the video transcoding and lower idle power draw. Case so I could get 8 HDDs in and to help it run as quiet as possible.

    Thanks!
