Looking for suggestions for a place to move in the US as a remote employee
  • If you don't mind the snow, I can strongly recommend south east Michigan. I love it here. You could get a nice home with a large yard, especially if you go a little more rural. You are also likely going to be within an hour of DTW airport, which is a delta hub so you can fly to a lot of places direct.

Take a look at Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Ferndale.

  • Every generation has some product/ingredient that they didn’t know was dangerous at the time: tobacco, lead, asbestos, etc. What is that item for this generation?
  • Complete shot in the dark but my brain can't let it be (also fuck it, thats the point of this topic):

Surfactants, specifically modern soap and soap products. I strongly suspect that petroleum based soaps cause damage and issues.

When you wash your glasses in a dishwasher, pour some water in after it is dried. Look at how many bubbles are formed on the surface. Pour it out and do it again - usually there will be less bubbles. That means you are ingesting leftover detergent that wasn't rinsed off. Can't be great for you.

  • Shout out to the oil, meat, and shipping industries
  • I looked into carbon offsets of shipping containers from China to the US as part of my job. I was shocked at how little was emitted per container - Probably cost around $40 of offsets for one 45 footer.

Like you said, the bigger issue is the trucks needed for last mile / between distribution centers.

  • Lemmy.world has been compromised

What can the 'average Joe' start hosting, that will change their life?
  • Whats a good way for me to take the dive into self hosting without getting myself in trouble security wise? I would love something that is basic to build off of as I experiment with it to teach myself the more advanced stuff.
