  • Perch are good if you fry them right. But I live up north where the water stays cooler, I think it makes the fish taste better. You go down south and anything you catch just tastes like swamp.

  • It was such a cool concept. The ending felt really forced, you could tell they had a bunch more story planned.

It was also cool they always filmed on location, it was nice to watch. Some shows will be set somewhere, but the background is so obviously southern California it just takes you out of the plot. I'm sure it was expensive AF, but it showed in the quality of it.

  • Murderbot is great, I'll second that rec. I also really enjoyed the Revelation Space series.

  • Second this. The audio book is the way to go on this one.

  • That keyboard gives off hot dad vibes for sure!

  • We're a long way from famine. We may have to eat food we're unaccustomed to. We may be forced into vegetarianism. Lots of grains, whatever vegetables can be harvested mechanically. But the amount of food this continent can produce is truly phenomenal.

A garden is a good idea

  • Thank you! This argument that we should love immigrants because they will "do the work no one else wants" has never sat right with me. It's more like no sane and rational person would do this work, in these conditions, for this pay.

What does it say about us that we need an endless stream of impoverished brown people to make our society functional? We can't build our own buildings, harvest our own crops?

We've got a real nasty history and habit of coerced labor in this country.

  • Credit unions are the way to go. Seriously if your reading this and have an account with a mega corp, go to a credit union. Start with a checking account, in time you can migrate all your other stuff over. Better deals on loans, and they're not predators. And you have a better chance of not enriching the billionaire class while you're at it.

  • Until you get home one day and a new "ring" camera is just there. It starts sending recordings of your grizzly death and dismemberment to your loved ones, until one day....

  • Ya, the show is almost worth watching just for the wardrobe

  • Obviously!

  • Lol a guy at a shop I worked at did this. He had already given his two weeks notice, but he got fired anyways. People were sooo pissed. Lol there weren't enough toilets for everyone who got it to use at once. I thought it was hilarious and well deserved, they actually gave me a talking to for laughing out loud about it.

  • I'll put the braniacs on it right after my coronation.

  • I'm not defending the practice of excessive idling, was just trying to give some perspective. Ty for calling it garbage tho, always nice to hear constructive feed back.

  • Get a camper and try it for a season. You might love it you might hate it. But you'll have some idea of the million little details that make living in a bumfuck rural area difficult. Getting groceries, medical care, just seeing other people.

I've known people who thought they loved living in the middle of nowhere and end up putting in several hundred driving miles per week because they would come to town on the slightest pretext, because they were bored and felt cooped up. Rural life was not for them. Are you the sort who cannot go anywhere for a week plus and be happy about it?

You'll also see the stars every night, hear the wind and come to know the land. Pros and cons. Try before you buy.

  • At a certain point it just becomes an additional poor person tax.

Tax it enough to offset the additional healthcare costs. Enact strict laws on where and when you may smoke, but not so strict it becomes impossible for a smoker to smoke. Then be done.

I don't think there's a person on earth who doesn't know it's bad for you. This punitive tax increase after increase is just making people miserable for no reason other than so legislators have something to point at to justify their salaries.
