in what shape is Jonas?

Hopeful Jonas recovered after all the injuries, but I somehow doubt it that he'll be at 100% after those injuries without much time to recover. While I'm rooting for PogRog, I fear a repeat of Giro, where Pog dominated and made it boring to watch. Or perhaps Remco will kick in, but then again he was also injured and didn't do well at Dauphine. What's you take?

Q: “Are we doomed?” A: “We would be, if not for the amazing developments in renewable energy.”
  • Do you have any data how much of those batteries are in fact in use? For example, Slovenia needs something north of 1.5 * 24 GWh energy for a day. And we are 2 mills population. Plus during winter you need to charge them. With short days of like 5 hours of less than ideal sun if no clouds or fog ... good luck. Perhaps eventually we'll get there, but it's really far far away.

  • Storage is nowhere near enough if we want self sustainable green energy. And author should compare winter moths when it comes to solar panels production - worst case. Yes, there is development and each day a breaking new battery tech is announced but until these get produced for real in mass quantities, they are vaporware. Mind that we need storage for like at least a week, better a month of energy worth. And that's a lot of batteries.

  • Europe's solar power surge hits prices, exposing storage needs
  • first of all solar produces power even on cloudy days, just less.

Oh, much much less. Even bigger problem is that days are short, those panels don't produce anything at all during night.

in any case, Germany has some ermergency plans. the LNG terminals they quickly started building while having russia problems were planned so they can be switched to green hydrogen imports in the future.

Again, relying on somebody else. Plus there is no green hydrogen at that scale anywhere in the world, nor the storage is there - abroad and in Germany.

also it’s normal to trade energy with European neighbours. everyone is trying not to be a burden for their neighbours though. btw this was of great help when Frances rivers ran dry during the last hot summer and Frances nuclear reactors couldn’t operate due to lack of cooling water.

What country would exchange summer time energy for winter time one? If there is a wider problem with energy supply, each country will take care of itself first. But yes, drought it's a problem with older NPPs, new ones are better at cooling AFAIK.

Germany isn’t done switching to 100% renewable yet.

And that's why it was really smart of Germans to close all NPPs yesterday.

  • Europe's solar power surge hits prices, exposing storage needs
  • Hm, OK, what are they going to do during short and cloudy winter days? And you are optimistic if you think Germany has enough pump or other storage to survive winter without burning coal, gas or imports. A lot of those.

  • Europe's solar power surge hits prices, exposing storage needs
  • It is a problem. First, energy prices are negative if there is a worldwide surplus - thinks summer with long sunny and perhaps windy days, hence you have to pay for somebody to take it. But the real problem is that they can't store for times when they need it, and when that time comes (specially during winter), they burn coal. A lot of it. Or gas. Basically they have to cover worst case scenario with production.

  • Eurosport discontinuing streaming

Eurosport started sending e-mails that they are discontinuing streaming (premium) service in favor of HBO MAX. Which is much, like 3x more expensive if you happen to watch only bicycling or some other sports and you don't care about other stuff. Even more odd is that they were sending e-mails like a couple of weeks ago that they were just increasing the price. So, that's it for me watching bicycling, I guess. It's been nice while it lasted, then corporate greed took over.
