Starlink is refusing to comply with Brazil's X ban (Update: Starlink will comply)
  • Yeah. It’s really sad that a lot of people on remote areas in the Amazon will be affected by a ban on starlink. They also spent quite a bit of money for Brazil’s standards on the equipment as well.

Still, this shouldn’t be the reason to put anyone above the law, no one should be above a county’s law.

If this actually happens it may really backfire on Elon and all companies he’s involved, at least in Brazil.

As you invested your money in one of his companies products and now because of his massive ego/lack of mental stability you either lost support, functionality or access to parts (for maintenance of hardware) and I doubt any of his companies would pay their users for this inconvenience. This would make using any of the products he’s involved with too risky, better to just use a more “mentally stable” competitor even if the service or product is slightly worse.

  • A unique aquaponics system to produce more fish and vegetables with less energy
  • I don’t know anything about this subject with the exception of a video I watched a while ago mentioning that most hydroponic startups end up failing because the cost is too high as you always need a specialist and you can only grow smaller plants/veggies there. This compared with traditional farms.

Does this change that at all? I’m hoping it does as I’d love that hydroponics got much more financially viable as I honestly believe they’ll be our future considering global warming and pests as well.

  • Help with pin headers
  • I think I found some. They all come with the plastic part, are the pins removable like regular pin headers or I’d have 2 plastic “strips” when I have them plugged in?

Regarding the diode legs. Aren’t them too flimsy. If I remove the microcontroller would it be easy to plug it back or they’ll bend too easily. I think I have some diodes laying around I could use

  • Help with pin headers

Using previous advice here I managed to assemble a piantor and soldered the microcontroller on the pcb directly and I have to say that for a complete beginner that was very challenging.

I've gotten 5 pairs of PCBs and I kind of destroyed one pair but I am still trying to assemble at least another keyboard so I have a backup as I reckon it would take me a few days to be able to be proficient again on a non ortholinear keyboard now.

So I decided to try to use the female pin headers to be able to remove the microcontroller if I ever need to in case it dies or something of the sort.

I had the regular pin headers already and I know I can remove the pins from the white strip so I was going to solder them into the pcb while attached to the female and cut the extra length they'd have.

I got this specific female ones from Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005053790061.html I got the ones named "1x40P Female Tin"

When they arrived however, I ended up noticing that the regular pin headers I have do not fit the female ones. I have no idea what to search for to buy just the pins and what dimensions I'd need to get them, can anyone please advise me on what's the name of the loose pins and which ones should I buy please.

Thanks in advance, thanks to this community I have a working kb now :)

Top 10 Anime of the Week #11 - Spring 2024 (Anime Corner)
  • It’s a shame the Fable is not on this list. All the animes on Disney plus feel like they have no advertising at all. Well, loser rangers is there though so maybe it’s just not for everyone

Edit: oh. Just saw the full list. It’s quite low, pretty sad considering it’s not just another isekai lookalike like most new animes

  • Lead free solder on microcontrollers
  • Oh. Thanks. I’ll use the flux in the solder only. I’m quite a noob at that so I just got the soldering iron and the solder. I will see about getting the alcohol and use a toothbrush to clean it off after.

  • Lead free solder on microcontrollers
  • Thank you very much for answering.

I believe the pcb is lead free as I got it from jlcpcb and they have it written in the package of each side that they’re lead free. The solder itself is also lead free from a reputable electronic store near where I live so I think it should be safe. I live in an apartment so it will be tricky to do it outside, I may try to solder it where my cooktop is as I can turn on the range hood to suck the bad air up.

Do I need to clean the flux that comes with the solder or it’s not that big of a deal? I’d expect that touching it when dry would be safe as well right?

  • Lead free solder on microcontrollers

I’m joining the split keyboard group by building a piantor. I have the pcbs already and they’re lead free coated and I will use lead free solder on the components.

I’m a bit worried though as I used a borrowed split and I noticed I keep touching the soldering in the microcontroller quite a bit and the build I was going for was a bare one where we just put rubber feet directly in the pcb so there’s no case or anything.

I tend to rub my eyes and bite my nails quite a bit during the day. I was wondering if it’s safe enough on lead free solder or if this is something I should completely avoid.

Any suggestions in case I should avoid it entirely. I reckon the worst place would be the top of the pcb maybe I can use some hot glue where the solder is but I have no idea if it’s hard to pull it off later if I need to review/resolder.

This is my first project and I haven’t done anything like this before, so even the flux I’m kind of unaware how to clean, solder comes with it right, do I need to wipe it somehow or use isopropyl alcohol and wipe with maybe a paper towel?

Sorry about being a complete noob. I searched around but most people are concerned about the lead solder not lead free like me.

Things the guys who stole my phone have texted me to try to get me to unlock it - Gothamist
  • Don’t think Apple security is much better. I’ve read news before about insiders that will unlock stolen phones. They work closely with the criminals and it’s a more “professional” operation. Probably it’s not as easy as doing it for an android but having an iPhone and thinking that if someone steals yours it will just become a paperweight is wrong. Sadly

  • Over 15,000 hacked Roku accounts sold for 50¢ each to buy hardware
  • Maybe that’s why they were trying to force their users to sign a new user agreement that wouldn’t allow users to sue them or something? I don’t recall the exact details but I remember it being very shady

  • S. Korea continues natural fall in population amid record low births
  • I remember watching a video not long ago about this girl in South Korea who went to uni, couldn’t find a job in her area. Then started doing web development and also had to work in a convenience store and could barely survive.

I know there’s a lot of people who never wanted to have kids to begin with and that pop decline is a worldwide phenomenon right now. However, even if someone wanted to have kids, how the heck can you do it if you can barely survive even with 2 jobs?

  • Question regarding federation of user data.

So, I understand that all interactions we make like posts and comments are visible from anyone.

Even though I believe it's a bit less private than I'd like I also believe that upvotes and downvotes are federated, I wonder if they're federated in a more private way using some hash or something or if it's just openly federated.

What about the email I had to use to register here? Hopefully this one lives only with the database of the this instance and it's not federated at all.

    Cheers

How to see my upvotes and downvotes?

I was wondering if there's a place where I can see my upvote and downvote history. Sorry about starting a post but I really couldn't find this information anywhere and can't find where in the website I can do it.
