Green Party urges Supreme Court to intervene in Nevada ballot dispute
  • That's the wrong conclusion. If two Democrats were on the ballot, they would likely still both lose because of first past the post voting. If you really want to support "making elections more democratic" push for ranked choice voting, or proportional representation.

  • Hakeem Jeffries rejects GOP spending bill as ‘unserious and unacceptable’
  • In case you're asking in good faith... The downside is that non-citizens voting is simply not a problem. The number of cases is extremely low, there's nothing to "fix" here. The biggest impact of this policy would be that actual American citizens who do not have, or lost, or forgot to bring their proof of citizenship will not be able to vote. It will predominantly affect poor and marginal populations. People that don't have a passport, don't have easy access to their birth certificate, or aren't aware of the new regulation. Fewer people voting is 100% the goal with this policy.

  • A truly superb owl landed on my sister's house this evening! Outside Charleston, WV
  • Face looks too pale for a spotted owl. Lacks the white x. Also habitat...seeing one in a residential area means almost certainly a barred. You're seeing its back which can look pretty spotted on a barred owl.

    Very superb visitor :)

  • Fluid in eye cells can 'boil' if you watch the eclipse without protection: expert
  • The eclipse is more dangerous actually... The visible light is reduced so your pupil expands. But a lot of UV light comes from the corona of the sun which isn't blocked during the eclipse. So your pupils are more open allowing in more of the harmful UV light. And to add to it, your eyes don't realize they are being harmed by UV light without the visible so you don't have that impulse to look away.

  • On April 1, Canadian MPs will earn world's second-highest salary for elected officials
  • They're overly clear on the physical presence requirement and the consequences for sending your application too early. It sucks for him, but it's also not hard to wait an extra week to apply just to be absolutely sure.

  • Is this true, Canada?
  • Yep, worked there during the changeover. 2003-04ish. I actually loved working there under the old management, the food was good, quality was the priority. Then the fryers left, replaced by industrial microwaves...but we still baked the muffins. I'm sure even those are frozen/reheated these days.

  • Kinzinger says Trump ‘learned’ political system’s weaknesses
  • You're right, but it does have a secondary impact when it can determine control of congress and the state legislatures. Remember, states control their individual voting processes for President, and there's plenty of ways for them to "cheat" legally or otherwise.

  • Last view out of my U-boat periscope (or, a Ring-necked Duck in BC, Canada)

Little guy ditched his woman to follow me around for about 10 minutes.
