@lurker8008 @MyOpinion a lot of people have 2 cars so there is definitely scope for a smaller vehicle for around town.
@scytale @RaoulDook the BYD Dolphin seems pretty cheap.

@TomSwirly @ajsadauskas @fuck_cars a lot of people are experiential, if it didn’t happen to them then they can’t relate to it. It isn’t real. If some of these people got caught in a bushfire and then got flooded and had their boat sunk by a cyclone, they may get it. Till then….
@Rayspekt @MicroWave the upfront cost is just one of many. EVs are significantly cheaper to run, the electricity is cheaper than fossil fuel and the maintenance is also much cheaper as there are a lot fewer parts to maintain. When you add it up, there big savings whole of life.

@hightrix it is a transition which will take time and not everyone will want to move at the same pace. As this is part of the economic transition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, there will no doubt be policies, incentives and penalties to facilitate the change. During the process there will be a heap technological change so what’s in market 10 years from now may well charge in 5 minutes.
@sic_1 @unmagical talking to EV drivers, they have a different way of thinking about range and charging. They are aware of the limitations and just plan around them and it’s no big deal most of the time. There is usually a power point somewhere to charge.
@scientist @silence7 I think we got better out of #COP28 then I expected.
When talking about politicians, we seem to have a few views: worried about jobs, worried about donors (#fossilfuel companies) and ideological convictions. We have had the absurd situation of a methane gas extraction company threatening the Australian Government with cancellation of $6b of projects unless they got appropriate legislation. The government caved as was worried about jobs, the opposition and a voter backlash. They kept it secret until the legislation passed.
Our previous PM was widely thought to be a sociopath, it’s the sort of job that attracts them.
@scientist @silence7 it is certainly a lot easier to keep it in the ground than put it back in the ground. I imagine that the extractors are making sure that they won’t paying for the sequestering.

@TDCN sounds great and would definitely be useful in #australia where there is continual news of unlicensed or habitually reckless drivers causing havoc. Maybe making owners responsible would start a shift in society where parents and friends need to their own role in this continuing drama.
My home is in south eastern New South Wales. I have interests in: #climatechange as it seems the world many be a very unpleasant place for my kids and grandkids, the #environment for a similar reason, #physics as it makes our civilisation possible, #astrophotography because it’s cool, #photography as I like capturing the moment, #renewableenergy as it’s the only way out of the #climatecrisis, renewable powered vehicles as #evs and hydrogen is the way of #fossilfuels. tootfinder searchable
