  • It takes 20s to start and 5s to shut down on fast hardware.

I just timed mine. Less than 7 seconds to start up, less than 1 second to shut down.

My PC is fast, but nothing amazing. CPU is i7-8700K, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a gen 4 nvme limited to gen 3 speeds.

  • When it was released? Steam ran like shit for me until probably 2017. It's finally a usable piece of software.

I also prefer steam because steam comes with a lot of benefits. If steam was still just a launcher and nothing more, I think most people would take issue with it today. That's just not the case, though.

Easy way to manage games, huge sales, support forums, easy way to manage friends, steam workshop, support for pretty much every controller, fast download servers

And one thing that people probably don't realize, is that steam will work with developers to implement patches. Many times when I play old games I'll go to PC gaming wiki and see that I need a few patches and mods to make the game work, but the wiki will say that those patches and mods were implemented into the steam release. It's really nice.

  • Well if you watch the video, you'll see that Casetify had their own design, it was the internals of an iPhone, and they printed it on all cases, including android cases.

    Dbrand made fun of them.

Casetify then straight up stole the dbrand images and sold them.

It was worse than just "finding" the images online. They straight up got made fun of from a company, who clearly had their eyes on them, and their solution was to steal the competitions images lol.

  • I'm not trying to defend anyone. Read my original post. I pay for premium because it works great for me. Lemmy users are so insufferable, trying to tell me how bad I am for paying for a service that works for me.

And yes, a Twitter poll is a great way to get data. The poll anyone can vote in, and many people DO vote just to see the results. Thanks for the very scientific and accurate data!

  • One thing that you are missing that is super disingenuous, is the fact that YouTube premium does pay more.

If you take a video and you send it to 1000 people who have YouTube premium, and you make another video and you send it to 1,000 people who watch ads, the video you sent to premium users will pay more.

From the stats that you showed, you are lumping every single person who views a video in with the small fraction of people who have YouTube premium.

I also don't believe that you were continuing to get ads on your TV with an active YouTube premium subscription. I get 0 ads on any platform I'm signed into.

  • I trust big YouTubers who know the system better, thanks. I'm also continuing to pay for premium because I like the ad blocking, the thing you ignored from my original comment.

I guess the anti-paying for things Lemmy crowd showed up. If you broke just say so 💅

  • Sorry, but I'm willing to believe a YouTuber with 2.1 million subscribers over a random Lemmy user who claims they have a YouTube channel.

You've also posted 0 proof of what you're saying, so we are just supposed to believe you? Inb4 you Photoshop some graphs.

Not to mention Linus Tech Tips did a video (if you don't know who that is, they have 15.4 million subscribers) where he literally says YouTube premium contributes WAY more than ads.

"YouTube premium, which for those wondering contributes WAY more to the channels that you watch than ads"

2 big creators say premium pays more than ads, Mr tens of thousands of subscribers.

  • Please know that content creators get paid SIGNIFICANTLY less from Premium subscribers than they do from ads. If that's your reason for giving google $25, I think you should know.

No they don't. I literally said in the post you're replying to that Technology Connections confirmed YouTube premium pays more.

Pretty wild that you ignored my original comment to spread misinformation.
