Get the frozen pre-made meal or just make it yourself?
  • Sometimes I don't have the motivation to cook, sometimes I do. Sometimes I have the motivation to get shit done that isn't in the kitchen. Throwing a pizza in the oven can buy me an extra hour of working on something else because I don't have to come in early to wash up, prep, cook, then wash the damn dishes.

    Have both options available.

  • I need to vent about my daughter's school because I vented to my wife about it last night but it wasn't enough and I'm still mad, so you folks get to see me rant.
  • I know online schooling can be frustrating. I earned most of my college degree and 2 certificates that way. Ultimately we're all human and even teachers make mistakes. There are also online teachers who bullshit their jobs and do dumb shit like taking cursory looks at assignments and half ass grading. I remember reading somewhere that these teachers will take on several classes and get paid per class and that some of them will work with multiple schools.

I'm sorry your daughter had to deal with that stress. You did the best thing your could which is follow up and keep ask about it and in the worst case scenario, escalate it. Usually these teachers also have phone numbers in their syllabus, don't be afraid to call them or to contact the school to get the number. I remember most online teachers only check their messages once a day and some of them won't check on weekends.

This will probably happen again at some point. Just follow up and contact the teacher. Any time I ever had issues the teachers were adults about it and apologized. Idk if this is with every online school but mine would send out surveys at the end of each class. If you get those make sure to fill them out with good and bad feedback. The positive thing about this is you are showing your daughter how to handle a real world problem like an adult and how to resolve a conflict with someone she has to work with.

  • Do any non-corpos actually like AI slop?
  • Going through data and writing letters are the only tasks I've seen AI be useful for. I still wouldn't trust it as far as I could kick it's ass and I'd check it well before submitting for work.

  • Advice request: How do I stop venting to people?
  • Finding a better therapist would help. Also finding the right people to vent to. Some people handle it better than others. You can try even saying, "hey, I'm not looking for advice, I just need to vent, would you mind being an ear?" at least that way you have their permission and they understand that they aren't expected to fix whatever the issue is. Controlling who you vent to is also a good way to prevent venting to the wrong asshole who can't shut their mouth.

I know you said no Journaling, but also consider a journal app on your phone or even just a Google docs. It's a discreet way to vent briefly. I remember also taking a pen and a notebook and writing how I felt over the same line over and over so it wasn't legible to anybody walking by. It's likely something you'll never read again and it's about letting out the frustration more than anything.

  • Where Can I Get a Good Set of Cast Iron Cookware?
  • Lodge is perfectly good. It's not about how much you spend on it but how you take care of it.

You can also try antique stores to see if you can find any. A lot of older cookware shows up at the ones in the Eastern US

  • What small, everyday life tips do you have to offer?
  • If you work from home, make it a point to get up and get dressed for your shift. Dressing casual is fine. Consider putting on shoes or house shoes too. There's something about it that wakes you up and gets you in the right mind every day.

  • Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't?
  • I remember Comcast suddenly started enforcing a limit of about 1 TB some years ago when I had them. Realized it happened when I renewed my contract to get a lower price again for a promotional period. Apparently I agreed to a new contract or something that included the new limit. >:|

  • Is there a Lemmy community for discussion of purchasing a new car?
  • That's weird that you'll axle and water pump are needing to be replaced before 100k. You might want to get a second opinion from a small business mechanic. It sounds like the boot on your axle might be leaking and a smaller mechanic might be willing to replace that rather than replace the whole axle. If it's not knocking the your axle should still be fine but if you don't ateast refill the grease in the boots it'll fail eventually. As for the water pump, I have to wonder what makes them think it's failing.

  • My hero

Probably not the first time this has made it's rounds but this was the first time I've seen this story.

Edit: sorry, thought it included the link. https://dailynewsreported.com/positive-affirmations/woman-chases-jehovahs-witnesses-down-the-street-yelling-succumb-to-my-devil-vagina-magic/ I have to shamefully admit I ate the onion

Bungie Reveals ‘Destiny 2’ Is Being Crippled By DDoS Attacks

Destiny 2 was barely playable at all yesterday after weekly reset, thanks to a number of error codes being spat at players during login or travel. By evening, I couldn’t play at all, loading into empty activities that would promptly kick me out after a minute or two.

Bungie has now confirmed that these instability issues have nothing to do with the recent weapon superbug that they are in the middle of fixing, where some perks have been disabled as they press toward a larger solution. Bungie has in fact revealed these current attacks on Destiny 2 are the result of outside DDoSing. Here’s what the BungieHelp account said late yesterday:

"Over the past couple of days, we've seen a spike in error codes and disconnects. The team has confirmed that these error codes are not related to the planned fixes rolling out for the recent crafting issue and are instead a result of DDoS attacks. While we typically don't confirm…"

In the tweet, Bungie says that this has happened before, but normally they would not comment on it, as that can just aid and embolden the perpetrators. This time, they’re doing it because they didn’t want people to assume it was because of the ongoing major bug fix.

There have indeed been instances in the past when Destiny 2 was suffering from huge server issues where I was told it was in fact a DDoS attack, but Bungie couldn’t say anything due to the reasons above. But it’s a frustrating situation given that of course, the wider community will assume it’s Bungie’s fault (and I mean, sometimes it is just normal server problems) instead of an active attack. Though now in the future perhaps there will be a little more room for interpretation, given that this has happened before, it’s happening now, and it will happen again.

Bungie has been incredibly litigious as of late when it comes to people impacting the game or its community. They have sued and won judgements against several large-scale cheatmakers. They went after someone who issued false YouTube takedown notices. They were awarded a judgement against someone who terrorized their former community manager and his wife.

It stands to reason they may take similar action against a DDoSer, but finding them may be a tall order. They are doing way, way more active damage to the game than some of these other cases, but it’s notoriously difficult to hunt someone like this down. It has happened in the past, but rarely, if ever, for something like going after a video game’s servers. I’m sure Bungie would absolutely seek damages or criminal charges here, if it were possible. We’ll see what happens.

For now, the game seems to be working okay as of this morning, but it’s unclear if the attacks have ceased altogether. My heart goes out to every “fix things” team at Bungie between these attacks and the ongoing bug fixes for the wildest glitch in game history. Hell of a week (Lemon, it’s Wednesday).
