  • Um.. no? Not what I said and not what I believe.

To quote professor Farnsworth: "The pursuit of knowledge is hopeless and eternal. HOORAY!"

We're always going to have things we don't know. The point is to build on the knowledge we do have and to slowly get better. What the belief in the supernatural does is actually the shortcut to "being able to explain everything about everything", because you're presupposing the answer without any proof or testing done. Sure, those things might be possible, but so might be waking up in the Pokemon universe tomorrow.

Until there's proof, I have no reason to act like there is. It's a fun game to think about, but it shouldn't hold any weight in how you see the universe we actually live in.

Also, the natural universe is weird enough already. Have you heard of the fine structure constant? Basically, we found this one constant number within all of these different fundamental formulas for how the universe behaves, but it doesn't have a unit associated. So, we know that it exists and can calculate it, but no one knows WHY it exists. We think it's a constant, but it might have changed over time, so we're trying to find ways to test that. We might never know, but those questions are far more interesting to me than "maybe aliens".

  • It doesn't prove it, no, but it doesn't need to. The burden of proof is on the one making a claim, so any claim should come with a way to test it. Otherwise, you can ALWAYS say, "Well, the flying spaghetti monster did it. You can't prove me wrong."

  • SUPERnatural means "above" nature

TRANScend means to cross the threshold to a new plane

Those both imply higher powers in their name. You might not consider the higher power to be sentient or good or whatever, but you're literally arguing for a higher power, just under a different name.

  • Sure, if the court case goes before them, on average of 4 years after the actual crime. But seeing as the Jan 6th case was thrown out, it won't matter what that determination would be if ignoring the Constitution and attempting to overthrow the government isn't past the line.

  • There's a fact-checked debate from Vox where both parties set 3 facts that they both agree to. Then they provide footnotes and more information that's not covered by just the facts. I found this format very enlightening while also explaining both points of view without getting heated.

I only found it on YouTube, but it might be available elsewhere.

  • It's so strange how this same action could be attributed to him being an ally or even just a cuck.

"The trans community is a beacon of Hope that must be protected at all costs. Under no circumstances will I allow any trans person to fight or die for our country, as they are the ones our country should be protecting most."

  • With Japanese business culture what it is.. I'm not surprised. People feel like they have to be the first one in the office and the last one to leave every day in order to have a chance at promotion. Even when they do "go out", it's often with coworkers and bosses.

They treat people "like family", meaning they ask too much from their employees for too little pay. The emotional manipulation is so huge, it's like any other abusive relationship. It's not a surprise people need help getting out.

  • The simpler the 'fact', the more likely it is to be an oversimplification and largely untrue.

In this example, you have to overlook any time someone became pregnant without consent. They never chose it to begin with, so blaming them for "not taking responsibility" for something they never wanted is oversimplifying a complicated subject to the point of falsehood.

It's also especially funny how often this argument comes from people who, in the same breath, will talk about their savior being "of virgin birth". You can't argue that chastity works for everyone when it didn't work for Mary.
