  • thanks for posting it originally.

I have no clue what happened, probably I managed to accidentally change/delete the link while editing the post.

That is absolutely fascinating, two of my favorite artists.

Then I guess you are going to enjoy watching this: A talk by Mr. Hayao Miyazaki and Mr.Moebius

  • You’re welcome, and I look forward to it myself! (so far I’ve only seen the original short and some previews)

Prepare for a crazy experience then, enjoy!

Someone in the BD sub mentioned that it reminded them of the work of LEO (Aldebaran, etc etc) and I agree with that, too.

True, the styles are pretty similar, guess I'll have to read that.

Netflix will supposedly order a S2.

I can't wait to watch that, s1 ends in a very promising way.

  • I just finished binging s1 of the netflix series and I loved it so much! The color palette, the landscapes, ecosystems and the tech, everything seems to be inspired by Moebius style and also by the movie Alien. I especially enjoyed the design of the ecosystem and in particular how they came up with so many fantastic species that even have plausible life cycles with different phases and even convincing symbioses that seem like believable results of co-evolution of species! I have not discovered something so fascinating for a long time! Thank you so much for pointing it out! I am a little confused though, are you saying there is more then s1 of the netflix show?

  • This is hard, I either did not read those series or I read them like twenty-thirty years ago! All I can guess is Nr 2 might be the Professor, Nr 8 one of the Daltons and Nr 10 maybe Pirlouit\Peewit\Pfiffikus because there is his goat in the last panel.

  • When looking up this album on social media, I came across a comment which suggested that by this point, Egypt had already been conquered for 500 years. IIRC it was first the Kush, then the… Babylonians? and finally Alexander’s (and Ptolemy’s) Greeks.

More like 700 years. Egypt was conquered by Kush in 712 BCE. In 671 BCE the Assyrians came and took over. The Egyptians rebelled successfully and kicked them out in 653 though. The next conqueror who attacked Egypt was Persia in 525, the conquest was finished in 341. Persian rule lasted until Alexander the Great took Egypt without resistance in 331. After Alexanders death his generals divided the empire among each other, thereby forming the Diadochi kingdoms. Ptolemy got Egypt and founded the dynasty that ended with the famous Cleopatra in 30 BCE when she died and Egypt was incorporated as a roman province.

  • I have no clue what series that could be but you should know that the biggest german meme about Saarland is that everyone there is somehow related and people regularly marry their close relatives/siblings. It is a bit like the Alabama of Germany. Those are of course just rumors not based in reality (mostly).

  • your favorite Python of choice, not just Michael Palin!

Easy, that will always be the multi faceted Terry Gilliam, especially considering he not only made the hilarious animations for Monty Pythons and directed Knights of the Round and Life of Brian but also Brazil, 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

  • I remember reading a co-interview he had with Miyazaki, and while the former seemed to speak clearly and comprehensively, Giraud seemed to be speaking as if from dreamland, with the interviewer and Miyazaki frequently not quite sure what he meant(!) But maybe that makes perfect sense for one such as he.

I can think of a possible reason for that. As far as I know Giraud regularly utilized drugs. For example he developed his own fast drawing technique that included microdosing Cannabis during work. I also heard first hand, from someone who personally met Giraud once, that he was quite fond of LSD.
