The entire Dragon Age series is only $10 on steam until June 27th.
  • I played through the third recently, yes there are a few mods. The game isn't very mod friendly so there's not a ton there but I found like a dozen or so that were worth installing on nexus.

Game still kinda sucks but good enough for one play through if you liked the first (two)

  • Lhyfe and Deutsche Bahn cooperate on development of trains powered by green hydrogen
  • Oh, I thought hydrogen was colourless. TIL.

I haven't been on that train for a while but I thought the entire line was electrified, the three stations and parts of the line definitely are. Either way it doesn't make sense to me to build up hydrogen infrastructure instead of electrifying the sections of rail that aren't yet. Can't be that much in Germany. In parts where it just isn't possible for whatever reasons why not install a few batteries?

  • Life By You [Sims clone by Paradox] is Cancelled
  • Sims is great but their content policy is insane. While I don't think this game looked amazing it did have potential and would've at least been an option. So we're back to only having Sims in that genre now. Let's hope that paralives pulls through, they seem to at least still be going

  • As Starfield Steam Reviews Plunge to ‘Mostly Negative,’ Todd Howard Responds to Paid Mods Backlash - IGN
  • Again with this bullshit.

“As it comes to, particularly the creators out there, look, our view is, a lot of them have gone from hobbyists to professionals. And it’s part of our job to make sure they can do that and they do get paid and they see the monetary rewards if they make awesome content,” Howard said.

This is such horseshit. This isn't about "making sure that they get paid" this is about Bethesda getting a cut of those profits, nothing more nothing less. The way modding is right now is perfect, at least from a user's perspective. You get everything for free but if you can afford it and want to then you can donate to the creator.

There's no need for a paid system because that excludes people who can't afford to pay for the stuff. They are already excluded from official content because everything comes as a paid dlc nowadays and now you also want to exclude them from modding?

I think this will only hurt the modding community and the only ones really profiting from this are the corporations.

  • Huawei Is Now Reportedly Selling Beef Products That It Received As Sanctions-Evading Payment For Argentina's 5G Equipment
  • That's a different story. This one is about that time Russia/USSR paid pepsi with old military equipment to get around sanctions. I think they couldn't actually receive it because they're not allowed to have that but it's a funny story regardless. I think someone already posted the link

  • Greens ‘will not back von der Leyen’ for re-election if she does deal with far right
  • Volt and the green party are two different parties. The European green party has roughly the same goals as your national green party but on an European level.

As far as I can tell volt is similar to the green party but with sometimes more radical goals. I'm not sure if I'm understanding the trans European part correctly, but while (for example) the green party members always have their own countries benefit in mind volt works more focussed on European goals, strengthening the EU first and foremost.

If you usually vote green volt seems like a solid alternate choice.

  • Major US Airlines Take Legal Action Against The Biden Administration Over Fee Disclosure Rule
  • They believe they already disclose fees, with the lawsuit claiming the rule is arbitrary.

Huh what's the problem then? If they're already disclosing all the fees then they don't need to change anything.

it [the DOT] said it expected passengers to save more than $500 million annually.

    Ah, there it is.

  • Crusader Kings III gets a Free Weekend plus a big Paradox sale on Steam
  • No, it's not easy to navigate.

It's a very complicated game and it's going to take you a few hours to understand all of the mechanics but they have very good tutorials. Be prepared to read a lot of text though. A bit of a guess but I'd say learning the basics takes around 2-3 hours if you follow the tutorials.

Once you understand how everything.works it is easy to navigate though because the UI is very good.

  • Kein Strom trotz Photovoltaik-Anlagen: Bürokratie schuld?
  • Walker sagt, er hat eine Wohnung im Wohngebiet gekauft und nicht im Industrie-Mischgebiet.

Was ein Clown.

  • World of Warcraft: 2 Million Pre-Registered Players in 2 Days for Returning Chinese Servers
  • Board game the Chinese players the option to download their account data before shutting down the servers. Whoever did that will (presumably) have the option to upload that data once the services are restored.

Afaik neither blizzard or netease saved any of the data. Blizzard didn't because Chinese players' data can't be stored on servers outside of china and netease didn't because...fuck 'em?

  • Eww, Copilot AI might auto-launch with Windows 11 soon
  • I looked into it and tried it myself just today. For the most part it's fine but you'll have to be prepared to do some tinkering here and there. Most of the games I wanted to play are listed on proton as works but with some issues.

I set up popOS yesterday and tried to install satisfactory today via steam but it wouldn't let me and when I filtered my games lost for Linux it shrank down to a very small list. Iirc it was listed on proton as gold or even platinum so there must be a way to get satisfactory to run but I honestly couldn't be asked today so I set up dual boot and went back to windows for now.

I think that's the way to got for a newbie. Set up dual boot and whenever you have the time & patience to try to get something to work on Linux go for it but when you just want to relax and play some games (or multiplayer) boot up windows.

I think Linux for everyday use is just fine even though popOS could use some UX designers.

  • Lol.

  • link preview & reader mode

First off I really want to thank the developer for a great app, I'm really enjoying browsing Lemmy with connect.

However, there are two features I got really used to from using joey for Reddit for years. One relatively simple one is a sort of link preview. Whenever someone posts a link next to it there'd be a little info where the link would lead. For example random link in connect looks like this but in joey it looked like this: random link<>. Imo it's really handy to know where a link will lead before you click on it.

The other more complex feature is a reader mode for every thread with a link attached to the post itself. You'd basically have three tabs, the first tab is the thread itself with all the comments and the post. The second tab is a normal browser view of the posted link like you get here when you click a link, and the last version is a reader mode. Which was just the best thing ever. It'd try to circumvent paywalls and gdpr prompts too, so most of the time you'd get a plain text view of the posted article.

I know the second one is a big ask, but if you could at least implement the first one that would be amazing. Keep up the great work!

[Bug] App freezes my phone for 5 minutes

Pretty much what the title says. I used the app twice today and both times after roughly 15-20 minutes my entire phone froze. I couldn't do anything but my inputs were still detected, i.e. I used a shortcut to open my camera and after a while the camera opened.

I'm not sure how long my phone froze this morning but I'd say roughly 2-3 minutes. Just now it froze for a solid 5-6 minutes.

I am using a Motorola Moto g(9) power. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary, just scrolling through the front-page, and I don't have many apps open since I always make sure to close them when I'm done using them.

I might be willing to risk another freeze, just let me know what(&how to) data to record beforehand.
