That's totally reasonable from the point of view of a developer who has to earn something to live. I mean you still have the choice to not use it. The internet simply works through user tracking and advertising
At least the experience scrolling through lemmy now is 100x better.
You know they started as a crypto browser? With BAT as their native token? Which is a cool system, as users get paid to watch ads. And yes, that's opt-in
