  • Damage fall-off is another thing I've seen mentioned by multiple people - seems like numbers are skewed towards getting people as close as possible during gun fights. Feels kinda weird for a game which (at least officially) plans to push players towards combined arms approach so hopefully they'll adjust these values when more reasons for proper on-the-ground tactics come online.

  • A bit late to the party but how reliable are the stats there? Because seeing a sniper rifle (P6-LR) with effective range 1000m shorter than assault rifles (S71 or P8-AR) makes my head spin. Not that I really doubt it - the FPS loadout site linked in the side bar shows the same values and besides, CIG approach to balancing is... peculiar to say the least but if that's how they approach firearms these days I have very little hope for proper gunplay in the open world in the future.
It really looks like they're balancing against Arena Commander rather than the sandbox gameplay.

On a side note, boy this site could use some work on the dynamic layout resizing or at least create a non-mobile looking version (with less white space and smaller controls) for the desktop users. This is how it looks for me - with no way to access half of the filters on the left and partially cut off entries on the right unless widened to a specific width they decided on.

Thanks for sharing! Despite my whining it's always nice to have multiple resources to choose from.

  • Yeah, the core parts are all there, thankfully. The skipped content consists of character moments or focuses on their life in Kowloon so not essential but still unfortunate stuff to miss as I do think it adds a lot. I understand why they're doing it this way and I'm glad this series got adapted in the first place - it deserves a larger audience and I hope the show leaves people interested in the source material after we're done.

The ending plan is about what I expected, now the question is whether it'll be a full-on separate thing or if it'll be connected to where manga version goes. Thanks for confirmation!

  • Really solid write up!

As much as I love SimCity 4, there's something about the look and feel of 3000 that makes it slightly more iconic for me (both are fantastic though). Maxis really knocked it out of the park with most of the series.

  • I've recently came back to the game after a short break caused by the state of the 4.0 release and I can safely say my time has been way better compared to that.

I haven't done much for now - mostly cargo and a few bunker missions. Both worked pretty well for the most part (except for a few hostile NPCs being stuck in spawn closets every single time). No medical since this part of the game seems pretty dead right now. Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky again some day.
I dropped into Pyro for a looksie as well. Unfortunately my PC had a bit of a rough time with locations there - not to unplayable levels but bad enough I didn't stay there long (I'm not sure there's much there for me anyway). It did look pretty at least.

I was lucky enough to avoid most of the bugs (compared to what I've seen in chat at least) so I'm free from the salt that made me drop the game last time. Don't know if I'll stick for long considering my main gameplay loop isn't really a thing anymore but we'll see, I might find something new to do in the meantime.

The few issues with the game that did come up include:

    • Changing components through mobiGlas doesn't stick, no matter what. This is a problem since I'm still using my trusty Aurora most of the time and they are too outdated to have physical component access. I'm still salty CIG leaves starter ships in a shitty state despite them serving as the introduction for many new players.
    • They should really cut down on Jump Point travel visuals (or give us settings to do it on our side). The experience itself is cool but boy was it rough to fly through the thing without being able to see anything for most of the trip.
Add the lowered performance due to playing on an outdated system and the whole thing ended up more exciting then expected - too bad it was for the wrong reasons.
    • I can only play at specific times of day so all of my sessions overlapped with periods when US players join EU servers. The moment this happens the whole atmosphere of the game shifts significantly - chat is filled with fighting, name calling and politics. Number of reported griefing (real and just unwanted PvP) skyrockets. Just being on the server feels more hostile and exhausting.
I'm not saying CIG should implement region lock but I really hope they'll start doing their job reigning in the player base before it's too late. There IS a point where things can go too far and scare away "normal" players for good.

All in all, it was a good experience in terms of technical performance. I'm still a bit unhappy with some of the gameplay/design decisions (both already implemented and announced) but not to a point of dropping out for good. Not yet anyway.
I'll just try to find my own fun for now and hope for the best. That's all I can do after all.

  • Welp, more skipped content, more changes and still going at the pace of one volume per episode - can't say I'm a fan of that. It's not terrible so far but it's still a disappointing way to go about it. At least what did make it in is good so there's that.

I'm curious what the plan for the whole season is - there's not enough material if they intend to go this fast. I'm a bit worried.

  • I'm more interested in articles at the billion mark - these will be legendary (especially if they manage to get to this point before releasing Squadron). C'mon CIG, delay S42. Do it for the memes.

  • Oh yeah, that's another thing they completely missed. It's really strange honestly - they've been so smarmy in videos about implementing these storylines in the game and the best they can do is put a few lines in your mobiglas or on a datapad (that may or may not work as was the case with the Pyro event for many).
Things like static NPC protesters are some of the lowest hanging fruit they could go with and they don't even do that (still worried about servers maybe?).

I'm rather sceptical they'll bring medical gameplay back to some semblance of necessity or depth though I do have a tiny bit of hope we'll get some kind of rescue missions. Probably not in the shape I'd like but at least something to shut medical players up. I just want to help, not shoot... That said, knowing the mission team I'm not sure they'll be able to resist adding pew-pew to medic quests either.

  • I'm still disappointed CIG came up with a perfect reason to add medical missions for NPCs (event about respawn system failing) and used it to add a mining pew-pew mission. Not saying the latter is bad but really feels like a wasted potential. Maybe some day.
I do hope these new missions will be fun for the space combat fans though.

I wonder how different the UEE training will be to the old flight tutorial. Leaks seem to suggest they'll include a character from back then so it would be cute if they added some references to the old version in dialogues or something.

  • My short time in game wasn't bad either, it's just forcing myself through the initial unwillingness to and anxiety of interacting with people in such environment is a bit too much for me (especially since there's so many other titles I can use as an excuse to not do that). As I said, it's a "me" problem.

I'm glad you're having fun! Old BF games and Project Reality were always a fun niche compared to titles focused solely on infantry combat so having it continue outside of DICE's attempts is great.

  • It's simple but fun in all the ways that matter. Holds up pretty well too despite its age. While I don't LOVE it, it did give me hope for an even better time with the sequel.

  • I love BF2. I love BF2142. I want to play Squad. I can't play Squad. It's a me issue, 100%, but having to do voice comms with randoms in a competitive environment is something I really don't want to deal with anymore.

The little I did manage to play was fun so support your endorsement. Anyone looking for a combined arms squad based shooter should definitely check the game out.

  • Game list:

I promise I won't be spamming this every week but I'd like to once again link my Pixelfed account - it's fully focused on game screenshots and might be of interest to someone. This week I posted some shots from Cyberpunk 2077.

  • I'm trying to play the PC version so no emulation here. As for the issue, the game simply freezes on launch (right after the EA Sports splash).

It seems to be a Linux (well, WINE) related issue since I was able to boot it up on Win10 a moment ago. It might be an problem with the graphics card detection tool failing during setup (it can't load a dll for that) but I have no idea how to fix that.

I might have to spend some time looking into it now that I have a lead. Thanks for that.

  • I hope this doesn't come off as whining but man did this event showed up at the worst possible time for this community.
The amount of news from CIG is extremely limited so unless one plays a lot and has something fun/annoying happen to them (which I'm unfortunately unable to do at the moment) there's just not much to talk about.

I'll just go search for some potential drama or hidden changes to report on when I have a moment, there might be something brewing on Spectrum at least.

  • I didn't have "read a sports manga" in my bingo card for the year but since Captain Tsubasa is currently free on MANGA Plus I've decided to check it out. It's fun change of pace, though I don't think I'll be sticking with it long term (it's just not my type of story).

Secondly, Maid to Skate is back baby! I've been a fan of Suzushiro (the author) long before the series so the initial announcement had me unreasonably hyped. Seeing such long breaks between chapters afterwards was really depressing. I'm glad it was picked up again and hope this means change to the "one chapter a year" pattern we've had until now.

  • That's a pretty difficult question without examples or some details on what you're looking or.

Do song covers in non-music anime count as unique? Soundtrack for The Rolling Girls contains covers of The Blue Hearts (including Stones with a great Shamisen solo).

Girls Last Tour has Song of Raindrops as an ED to one of its episodes - it consists of vocals, soft beat and sounds of dropping water.

  • It's here! I love the manga so seeing it animated is great.

It looks like they're going with scattered approach (episode ended in the same place as volume 1) so I'm a bit worried about what this means for the adaptation as a whole. I hope they'll go back to skipped chapters and just used episode one as a hook.

Other than that it's a pretty promising start. Can't wait for more.

Oh, all the food in this episode made me hungry and there's no Chinese cuisine nearby. Curse you anime food!

  • Damn, that's so old it still has the dreaded "use" prompt. So there are still things from that time I have never seen before, that's neat.
