  • Yes, CICO is a basically thermodynamics, and is, fundamentally, true.

But, I don't think anyone really thinks CICO is basically wrong? Only that its an unhelpful framing. And, there's a lot of other problems in your comment here.

Biggest one is the implication that fat people aren't eating healthy, aren't exercising. Many are! And, 'healthy' vs 'unhealthy' foods I don't think is generally a helpful framing either. Like, I know what you're trying to say with it, but you can lose weight on mcdonalds and gain it eating salads, and its not really the 'unhealthiness' or 'healthiness' that causes weight gain or loss.

Just look at the mess of 'diet info', where there's so many diets whose explanations are directly contradictory with one another, yet some people lose weight doing one, and other lose weight doing the other.

  • Its the balance with this kind of stuff that's tricky. You don't want to make kids ashamed of having urges. But also, you do want them to act in ways that are socially acceptable (speaking very generally), and of course, porn specifically can easily become pretty mentally unhealthy for adults, let alone teens.

I feel like, especially for 'awkward/nerdy' kids, this kind of shaming can lead them to being anxiety ridden wrecks anytime they are around potentially interested partners, as they think their urges overall are something to be ashamed of.

And, that shame is multiplied if the content is LGBT, generally speaking.

But also, "I'm sorry women" is very funny

  • I've always rankled at gender-as-a-box. Which, of course, is not what gender is in its totality, but it feels, in a lot of ways, like one of the earliest interactions a lot of people have with gender as a child.

Boys don't do x, girls shouldn't play with y. Wider culture has moved away from 'don't's and 'shouldn't's (though, many families still do), but even without hard barriers, 'culture' clearly still pushes boys and girls into certain boxes.

I'm uncertain if I'm trans or cis or agender or w/e label, much like you. I'm not deeply uncomfortable with my body (though, I don't especially like it either), and while I support transhumanism stuff, I'm personally loathe to change my body (which, is largely tied to my mental illness tbh).

But, presontationally, I default to what could be described as either 'metrosexual' or outright 'visibly queer', just because I have a taste for the clothes I like the styles and colors and accessories, and gender norms be damned. But also also, it feels shitty to take gender-nonconforming-fashion directly into 'trans', it feels like I'd be appropriating a label. And, at work, I'm 'normal masc presenting' simply because A) I work as a tradesman, so its practical, and B) I do want that $, and to not get shit at work, even if that feels cowardly and inauthentic.

Saying that I'm 'cis-ish' also sometimes gets me labelled as an egg online, which while disrespectful, idk, might be right?

  • I grew up with an atari 2600, that's still 'retrogames' to me, everything else is 'modern'.

  • By the time Biden dropped out, yes, she was really the only choice, logistically. I think at that point, 3 months ago, there was basically nothing the dems could have done to have won this. They could have made it closer, but any real shot at a candidate people liked, would have needed to have gotten spooled up a year ago, at minimum, two years ago ideally.

The DNC shares so much blame for overall strategy of the last decade+, but the decision for Biden to insist on aiming for a 2nd term the whole time, despite pressure, and only cave when the saw just how grim those final projections really were, is mostly his, personally.

  • More or less.

Current odds I've seen is that Pa is 'the state' that decides the election about 1/3 of the time, with the other 6 'battleground' state making up most of the rest of the 2/3s

  • I sill love the Frank Frazetta Eowyn art, where her whole ass is out, as, since she's dressed in 'normal' Rohirrim armor, implies all the Rider of Rohan are thotted up, ass out

  • Exactly my opinion. It is interesting in some ways, but it apes the mmo style of quest design too closely for my tastes.

  • I do think its hornyposting, but also my barometer for such things is way off, since I'm ace.

Mostly, I hate the trope of 'lets just draw X, but all hot young (usually anime, though not here) women'

(but also, I usually don't comment either way, just ignore and possibly block user)

  • A lot of languages also don't consider 'meat' to include 'fish meat', having entirely separate words for the two.

but yeah, I think in the US, its mostly catholicism brainworms

  • You are right. But like, 'learning to do sportstalk' to help with 'socialization' (especially at work) doesn't make me like sports. If anything, I kinda makes me think its dumber.

But yeah, sports, beers/alcohol, guns, hunting, all classic 'guy talk' I'm decently good at, despite none being things I'm really into.

  • Can't relate; I do think its pretty boring. Its up there with like; clubbing or bar culture. I don't hate it, but I'm left wishing it was just like, a house party or something, somewhere less loud and crowded.

I don't shit on sportsfans or anything, I just can't understand why its enjoyable to watch. But like, there's lots of hobbies I don't 'get', so I'm not judging people for liking things I don't. And I do like playing sports, generally speaking.

  • I didn't care for it. Very much 'skill issue', but all the games I've played so far against people has felt like I lost the game in the first 10 minutes, and then had to endure 30 minutes of getting my balls stepped on for the game to end, since there's no surrender option, and didn't feel like there's any 'comeback' mechanics, but also the winning team feels like it takes a while to actually secure victory.

Compared to League of Legends (which I haven't played in years, but did rack up many hours back in college), where a) you can surrender, and more importantly b) its possible to win quite quickly, both from just being ahead, but also from doing a cheeky 'backdoor'.

Deadlock, it feels like the 'securing victory' route requiring minions, and also just being a multistage affair with mandatory wait periods in between, just makes it feel like a slog, both being on the winning or losing side.

  • 'scallops' from king mushrooms might be my favorite

Chicken/hen of the woods 'pulled pork' tacos are excellent (oyster mushrooms also work)

    Lion's mane 'crab cakes'

Combined with Beanis for blackbean and mushroom burgers

Also just, in soup. Minestrone is a classic, but I've been liking as a side some miso soup with just a bit of diced button mushrooms and seaweed

  • Gale is the fucking worst. He talks like a redditor. Probably only Astarion is worse.

Karlach I guess I can see people liking; to me its less the character, and more the writing. She isn't sold to me; she comes off not like a person, but like a new player's first barbarian trying to fight for ~power and love and violence!. I can't take her seriously, she just feel like a tumblr post made live or something.

  • Ugh, yeah, that tracks.

#1 complaint (and, really only, aside from bugs) about BG3 is just how unlikable every single companion is. And yeah, they do got big Morrigan energy, for worse.

  • Thank you for the answer! That makes it a lot more clear what's going on; the impression I got from the marketing material was kind of all over the place and made it seem a "do everything" mess.

Probably not the game for me? Sounds like I might like 2/5s of the core gameplay, but also probably will mildly to strongly dislike another 2/5s. I like puzzles and platforming, but I find hack and slash combat extremely boring. I do like that there's no 'timed social links' like in Personal; one of like 3 major reasons why I don't like those games.

  • I don't especially get what kind of game it is from its trailer. I glossed over it because of this when I saw it on Steam.

It looks kinda open world hack and slash-y? Which are two genres I mostly hate. But also, it has some mention of puzzles, which I do like. But its hard for me to tell "what is the thing you spend most of your time doing" while looking at its press material.

  • Star control 2 fucks. Highly recommend. Basically a proto Mass Efect, but still better thannit in a few ways (if obviously much less 'cinematic' and character driven).
