I don't know if it's the best, but kitty + zsh has been my daily driver for many years.

Adding

[Settings]                                                                                                                                                                
gtk-theme-name=Adwaita-dark                                                                                                                                               

to $USER/.config/gtk-4.0 and $USER/.config/gtk-3.0 should do the trick.
