  • Absolutely. Someone will always disagree and that‘s a good thing, actually. Bubbles are just as if not more problematic than the disagreeing „troll“. Sometimes there are reasons to play devil‘s advocate and sometimes you just bring up concerns that you‘d like to be eliminated.

I remember when I was part of a tiny minority bringing up concerns over Elon Musk and let me tell you the pushback and ridicule I received IRL was even worse than discourse online at the time. It took a long time until someone came up to me and actually admitted that I was right about Musk the entire time. I just failed to bring my point across earlier because they were better at debating but I like to think I sped up their process of becoming disillusioned about tech billionaires a little bit.

There‘s also a case where I got temporarily banned from a community I was very active in and labelled as a „right wing troll“ when almost every comment I made on Lemmy pointed to the opposite. A moderator probably had a bad day, read a comment they disagreed with and let the hammer fall down before even doing as little as to check my post history. Not much harm done I guess but man we should learn to embrace other opinions a little more.

  • I don‘t think it even should be a choice. If Ukraine falls we‘ll have a lot more problems on the continent and have to prepare for further Russian expansion as well as Chinese aggression. It‘s just not worth to give up Ukraine because we‘ll get nothing in return in the long run. Evil is evil and what they‘re doing to Ukraine, they‘d to to everyone else.

  • The North Sea is possibly the most profitable place on the globe to run a windfarm. Everyone wants a piece of that so think very carefully before considering any offer from anyone. Especially when it‘s an authoritarian regime that seeks to expand it’s borders with military force. If you need investors I am sure there are plenty options to choose from that won‘t put you in a pickle.

  • Their original plan was to have eternal peace after world domination and genociding away all other cultures. Many wars was really never the plan although in reality that would‘ve looked very different of course. You can‘t force a world order under one fascist regime for very long. People would have revolted constantly and the Nazis would‘ve tried to answer in the only way they knew how until the whole thing collapsed. It was doomed to fail but the plan really was long lasting peace after the one war, not endless wars.

  • Their bird population never recovered because even migratory birds have their fixed routes and when you exterminate thousands upon thousands of swarms that have settled there for countless generations it breaks the cycle. I guess environmental pollution also doesn’t help. It‘s not like bird populations are doing great anywhere these days but with that history it‘s extra hard for them.

  • What fine? I thought this new law allows it. Or is it one of those instances where training your AI on copyrighted material and distributing it is fine but actually sourcing it isn‘t so you can‘t legally create a model but also nobody can do anything if you have and use it? That sounds legally very messy.

  • Sorry Bill but it’s too late and not enough. I still want to eat the rich and that includes you.

Although I‘ll admit if all billionaires did this instead of - oh you know - investing in fascism and actively dismembering democracy globally I might feel different about this. But as things stand I am done with billionaires. We cannot coexist. Simple as that.

  • He‘s not only embarrassingly incompetent as a leader, his party also fails to do the single thing boomers voted them for: Being conservative. They can’t stick to a plan. They‘re unreliable and inconsistent. It‘s a horror show for industry and potential investors because there‘s no way of telling if decisions from today are withdrawn tomorrow afternoon.

The Merkel years were wasted for sure but at least you could plan ahead when the government simply didin‘t get things done.
