  • Do you reply to memes about video games with your thoughts on covid?

  • sounds like you haven't had much experience of having to sit through religious people spout bullshit at you every single day.

You mean like what's happening in this thread? Someone had a joke that had nothing to do with religion, and here we are talking about religious bullshit because someone can't let any opportunity pass without mentioning religion.

Again: if you're tired of people spouting religious bullshit at you all day I would expect you to not try to steer even more conversations towards religion.

  • I would just expect someone who doesn't like religion to not want to have conversations about it, instead of bringing it up at every vaguely related opportunity.

  • Fine. Hop in a car, and get on the nearest highway. Every time you come to a fork, roll a die to see which direction you go.

Careful, that's how you end up here:

  • No ID saying they are ICE, so they very well could be protestors! You have no way of knowing and feel threatened...

  • Moriarty was told that if you die in the next 24 hours he gets $3 billion.

  • Q: How can you tell if a Lemming is an atheist?

    A: Don't worry, they'll tell you.

You saw a meme about science and math and your first thought was "how can I make this about religion"?

  • You want OP to ask someone to correct the grammar on their post before OP posts a screenshot somewhere else?

  • "If anyone ruins my big boy parade I'm going to throw the biggest tantrum you've ever seen!"

  • why don't they program them to look up math programs and outsource chess to other programs when they're asked for that stuff?

Because the AI doesn't know what it's being asked, it's just a algorithm guessing what the next word in a reply is. It has no understanding of what the words mean.

"Why doesn't the man in the Chinese room just use a calculator for math questions?"

  • A gear is not a wheel. That's why it's called a "gear" and a "wheel".

  • I'm reminded of an early model that was trained to find if tanks were hiding pictures of forests / jungles. Was doing great with the training data then was given new images and seemed to be guessing wildly.

Turns out it in the training data all the pictures with tanks were taken on cloudy days.

  • They're actors. In Mario Brothers 3 you can see the background bolted to the set and you go back stage at the end of every level. It's a production. Then they do celebrity sporting events.

  • A lot of transportation has an equivalent amount of doors, and there a lot of house, apartment buildings, offices... You use a lot more doors every day than you do wheels.

  • There’s a term for this idea, “preternatural”. It means a phenomenon that is the result of the natural world, not magic or divine, but still unexplainable with our current understanding.

So anything actually proven to exist would be "preternatural" then. Even it turned out to be the result of magic or the devine, it's still something that exists in the natural world that we just don't understand yet.

  • I they got sued by shareholders for doing so. I guess CEOs aren't the only ones that need to be on the list...

  • Lemmy isn't a court of law, neither is the Internet.

Proceeds to cite general Internet opinion as proof of guilt.
