Tech workers react to UPS drivers landing a $170,000 a year package with a mixture of anger and admiration
  • So I am in a "Right to Work" State and I have thought about this for a minute now... Given the support is there, how hard is it to start a union in a particular field/industry in a city? I have been in Tech and IT for the last +10 years and I while I havent met too many Union Deniers, no one seems to know why there is no Tech Unions out here. Is there a place I could reach out for guidance?

  • I like the interface, and have been a user of the reddit version for years...
  • So while I understand the love for FOSS and an Ad Free Experience, somebody still has to pay for the server time. Now I know this doesnt exactly work in THIS scenario with Sync, but couldnt ads and paid subs in Apps be a good way for Lemmy/KBin instances for be financed without having to rely on donations?

For Example, imagine if Lemmy.ml had their own app with their own experience and if you wanted to support it without actually handing over money, now you could use ads in the mobile experience and feel a little better about your lurking.

    Just a thought.

  • Audiobooks
  • I can't either! I got bit by the audiobook big a few months ago and jumped into MAM and it's been fantastic! Half the books are looked behind their VIP section, but it's super easy to get that status of your seed consistently. I was given literally 1000s of their bonus points from other members just for hanging around their forums for a few post. Bought my VIP status with the bonus points, and now I log in every month or so and convert my points to top of my VIP status and then dump the rest into my Ratio

  • Reddit's API protest just got even more NSFW
  • Third party apps that are still working are most likely going to get hit with a bill on August 1st they were not prepared for. Reddit knows which applications are using the API keys so they know where to send the bill. But the changes took effect on July 1st. The apps that shut down before the first did so because the developer killed their API key so they wouldn't occur any charges.

  • What can the 'average Joe' start hosting, that will change their life?
  • You can get yourself a 1L pc from Dell, Lenovo, or HP 8th gen or newer for pretty cheap. Great little work horses. You can find Dell Optiplexes on any second hand sites in your area really cheap too.

But in all reality, the old machine you already have is the best solution. If you got an old computer from an upgrade years ago, that's great to play on
