  • A full 17 minutes in before the first argumentum ad hominem. I stopped after that. I kinda want to watch it to see if it is as much like a flat-earthers' video "the truth about Eratosthenes!" as I think it is but I don't think I will. Thanks for posting anyhow.

  • The media group found similar anomalies in data from WinRed, a Republican platform similar to ActBlue. The House Administration Committee does not appear to be investigating the WinRed fundraising organization.

    Hmm.

  • a new ad which takes aim at Vice President Kamala Harris by using her own past remarks against her.

Democrats tried to do this, but after weeks of ruthless editing, still had 16 hours of Trump remarks that made him look bad.

Harris, the Democrats’ effective 2024 presidential nominee, has an extremely left-wing history in politics

Extremely left wing huh? It's so funny how anyone who isn't a white christian nationalist with an 88 neck tattoo is a "radical leftist Marxist woke socialist Bolshevik!!!" Big-money pro-capitalism liberals put a performative rainbow sticker on their MacBook Air and they are "America hating lesbian communist!"

Anyway, ole Kamala is about as radical and leftist as BofA.

  • Where did I get this idea? Well, I grew up In a very conservative neighborhood in a conservative town and went to a conservative private school and church.

You've never heard anyone say such a thing? You are either pulling my leg or you are unable to see it for what it is.

Here are just some of the prescriptive conservative ideas based on people's biological characteristics: who can wear what clothes, what toys are appropriate for which children, hair length, who can go into which washroom, who can get married to whom, who can play what sports, decisions about abortion, and on and on.

Why so much time and discussion devoted to trans people in conservative media? Because they break the rules on who can do what, arbitrarily based on the junk you were born with. In the case of Imane Khelif, what she was born with was not enough to shield her from controversy and harassment.

When I was a kid I wanted an easy bake oven so i could make cake and eat cake, no other reason. What I recieved was a powerful whuppin for "tryin to act like a girl." That's where I got that idea.

  • What? A real world example of school vouchers in action?

the program takes money away from the district schools that educate 90% of Arizona’s K-12 students and that universal vouchers are essentially a subsidy for wealthy parents who were already sending their children to private schools before vouchers were available to them.

How is this more choice? Seems like less.

“Failure to rein in these costs means critical areas of state government expenditures will be cut to balance the budget,”

So the actual result is a huge state budget deficit and less services for everyone. Huh. So why would anyone want this?

  • It's partly a push to privatize all schools and partly a tactic to get public funding for religious schools. Why should a secular government pay for religious schooling? Mostly it's about privitizing.

School privitization is a purely ideological fever dream of Milton Friedman who believed that profit driven free markets are the most efficient at doing everything, and that the only social responsibility of business is to increase its profits. This makes sense for widget factories and pottery barns, but not public services, not childcare and not the education of a nation's citizens. Efficiency is not the most important metric of success if it means making services unaffordable or unavailable to portions of the public. A profit seeking school could deny service to learning disabled or neurodivergent children. Trying to make a profit in cases like this would probably mean more government intervention, and the results are usually less beneficial to the public than the government services provided in the first place. Anyway, private schools aren't any better than public schools. https//wwwjacksonville.com/story/special/special-sections/2018/07/27/study-private-schools-not-better-at-educating-kids/11260129007/

  • Edit: I was going to try to add to the comedy but I feel like it's not actually funny. I get the irony, but I started thinking how I'd feel if I had a family member or friend that died in such a dumb way.

Well he's in the arms of Jesus now. If there's any lesson here it's use a damn holster, people, and take your safety training seriously.

  • This community isn't about conservatism in any real meaningful sense, but the modern mental illness that passes for conservatism these days. Scroll down through the last month or so of posts and you will see the titles reveal a list of things that conservatives hate: Immigrants (read: brown people), right-of-center liberals, gay and trans people, environmental conservation, etc. This post is a twofer because conservatives hate both Islamic extremists (justified imo tho ironic because they share similar goals) and they also hate Taylor Swift.

  • Yeah you remember on day one the presidency that started with lying about the size of the inauguration crowd? Most powerful office in government yet he has to send out Spicer to push obvious lies about something so inconsequential.

  • I don't understand how this is not the top answer in the thread. In my opinion this is almost the best possible answer.

Two things I have issue with: "have a relatively free market" should be "have a well-regulated market." Obviously "well regulated" is open to interpretation, but there should be some agreement that the 2008 financial crisis was the result of insufficient market regulation.

"Be judged on their merit and the moral choices they make, not based on their biological characteristics."

Sadly, this is a very untypical view. It's clear that some of the most strict and punative conservative viewpoints are based on biological characteristics. Like, a lot. So much that it prompted Op's question: where do intersex people fit into the strict conservative biological based rules on who can go where and do what?

Side stepping the real question shows that conservatives don't really want to talk about, or know about intersex people, or anyone who isn't the straight white heteronormative christian default. Its clear that most conservatives attitude about people who don't fit that profile is that they should know their place, keep quiet and not be uppity.
