Incumbent Democrat Who Voted to Ban Gender-Affirming Care in Texas Loses Primary
  • Stealth Republican. I can't say this for sure but, since the district leans so far left that the Republicans didn't even run a candidate last time, this individual probably just ran as a Democrat even though she intended to support Republican positions once elected. Campaign as if you have the same ideals as the voters, then turn coat once you're sworn in. It's been done before.

  • Is Caitlyn Jenner refusing to respect other people's pronouns/names or used the issue as a political weapon? As far as I know, her only position is that people should relax about cases of accidentally misgendering people.

Nikki Haley, on the other hand, has made numerous public statements attacking the use of people's chosen pronouns. So yes, I feel fine attacking her on the issue because she has chosen it as a weapon against others.

  • Nikki Haley writes ‘finish them’ on IDF artillery shells during Israel visit
  • Sauce for the goose, my friend. Going high while our opponents go low is why this nation is in the state it is right now. If they chose to wrestle in the muck rather than abide by civilized rules, then I'm more than content to get dirty and fight them there if that serves me best. I see no reason to cede them any advantage out of an outmoded sense of fair play.

  • Nikki Haley writes ‘finish them’ on IDF artillery shells during Israel visit
  • No, you're the one supporting the side whose potential VP candidate wrote "Finish them" on a piece of artillery to be used in the genocide that you pretend to be against, because she rightly believes their base will eat it up and doing so will help her get elected.

  • Trump makes sweeping promises to donors on audacious fundraising tour |By tying donation requests to pledges of tax cuts and other policies, Trump is testing the boundaries of federal campaign finance
  • Testing the boundaries?! No, he is blatantly violating corruption laws. He is asking for a quid pro quo, you do this for me and I'll do that for you.

John Roberts, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA defined corruption as "a contribution to a particular candidate in exchange for his agreeing to do a particular act within his official duties."

  • Following Abortion Ballot Measure Efforts? You Should Follow State Legislature Races Too
  • Don't just follow state legislature races, vote in them! And local level elections as well. Vote in every election at every level. The reason the Republicans have the power that they do right now is because they have focused on taking over state legislatures for the last 20+ years with the intent of gaining control of the redistricting process in every state they can. They have been horrifyingly successful.

In 2009, Republicans controlled both chambers in just 14 state legislatures. Six years later, they had total control in more than double that number. And that's not even the full, bad story for Democrats. Look at their numbers. In 2009, Democrats had full control in 27 state legislatures; by 2015 that number was down to 11, the lowest ebb for total Democratic control since, at least, 1978.

With control of those maps, the Republicans have all but election proofed their control in many states. In Ohio, for example, Trump won with 54% of the vote but the Republicans won 79% of the Senate seats in 2022. In Wisconsin, a Democrat won the Governor's mansion with 51.2% of the vote but Republicans still took 65% of the state senate legislature.

In Arizona, the Republican legislature is trying to make themselves the sole authority in appointing presidential electors. This could allow them to claim fraud in the next election and tie the results up in court with the same lies they used in 2020. Then, when the deadline for for certification comes up, they could declare their own slate of electors to send to DC rather than the slate that the voters chose.

For the last couple cycles, the Republicans, particularly the more extreme branches, have been focused on local level races trying to take over school boards, city councils, and elected law enforcement positions. We as a society cannot let that happen. These people only seek to line their own pockets and accumulate power for themselves and their allies.

Vote in every election as if your life, or at least your livelihood, depends on it. Because someday it just may.

  • Okay... so we should vote for the guy who thinks Israel is right and needs to "finish the job."

“I don’t know why they released wartime shots like that. I guess it makes them look tough. But to me, it doesn’t make them look tough,” Trump continued. “They’re losing the PR war. They’re losing it big. But they’ve got to finish what they started, and they’ve got to finish it fast, and we have to get on with life.”

You can vote for the guy who isn't doing enough to stop the atrocities in Gaza, or you can vote for the guy who just wants Israel to hurry up. There is no other option.

  • Senate Democrats Open Inquiry Into Trump’s $1 Billion Request of Oil Industry: Committees are seeking information from oil executives about a dinner where the former president proposed a quid pro quo
  • Glad to hear it. Re-posting something that I posted 9 days ago when this first came out.

This was clearly a request for a quid pro quo arrangement. Pay me this and I'll do that for you. Very illegal. In case there's any doubt about that...

In 1976, announcing the Supreme Court's landmark Buckley v. Valeo decision, Chief Justice Warren Burger set this standard for corruption: "the reality & appearance of improper influence stemming from the dependence of candidates on large campaign contributions."

The current chief justice, John Roberts, had led an effort to tighten that broad language. Roberts, delivering the McCutcheon v. FEC ruling last year, defined corruption as "a contribution to a particular candidate in exchange for his agreeing to do a particular act within his official duties."

He was describing a quid pro quo – the donor's money in explicit exchange for the politician's official favor. It's a felony.

Just to be clear, John Roberts, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the USA defined corruption as "a contribution to a particular candidate in exchange for his agreeing to do a particular act within his official duties."

Fulton County prosecutors seek emergency protective order after proffer footage surfaces

Fulton County prosecutors filed an emergency request for a protective order in the Georgia election subversion case on Tuesday after recorded statements made by multiple defendants as part of their plea deals were made public.

On Monday, ABC News and The Washington Post published footage of the proffer sessions, which showed the four defendants who pleaded guilty being questioned by prosecutors about their involvement in various efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Prosecutors said the footage was turned over to the remaining defendants as part of discovery, urging the court to impose restrictions on how the defendants can disclose the materials.

“The release of these confidential video recordings is clearly intended to intimidate witnesses in this case, subjecting them to harassment and threats prior to trial, constitutes indirect communication about the facts of this case with codefendants and witnesses, and obstructs the administration of justice, in violation of the conditions of release imposed on each defendant,” prosecutors wrote in their motion.

To prevent further disclosure, prosecutors said they will not provide videos of any proffer sessions to defendants moving forward.

“Instead, defendants must come to the District Attorney’s Office to view confidential video recordings of proffers. They may take notes, but they will be prohibited from creating any recordings or reproductions,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.

    Trump breaks yet another law

Trump has come under scrutiny after a gun was auctioned off at a fundraiser held in his Mar-a-Lago, Florida, home.

Donald Trump may have just broken the law

Last weekend, an auction held at his Florida home saw the item, described as "a one of a kind Trump Glock from the 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump," go up for bidding during a charity event. Pictures circulating on social media show the gun being presented at the auction, with news website Meidas Touch saying that bidding for the item began at $10,000.

However, the transaction could land the former U.S. president in considerable trouble, given that federal law prohibits those under indictment from transacting firearms. Trump is embroiled in active legal proceedings, having testified at a civil trial over the New York investigation into financial fraud at the Trump Organization. The former president has denied all wrongdoing and repeatedly said that the ongoing federal and civil cases against him are part of a political witch hunt.
